Last summer I got my first UTI at 24 years old. The doctor prescribed antibiotics (Macrobid) and everything seemed okay. However, just recently over the past 3 months I have had 3 UTIs which always circle around my period. I do everything to prevent them from reoccurring (ie. 1000mg of Cranberry supplement a day, wiping front to back, not holding in when I have to pee, peeing after the little sex I have, staying hydrated, etc.) but they keep coming back. I took some prescribed antibiotics (Cipro) last afternoon however the symptoms (ie. having to pee every 5 minutes but little trickling out) have not lessened. This also happened once before and I went back to the doctor after the 6th and final day of antibiotics treatment but they told me my urine was clear and to just drink Cranberry juice.
I fear that they are misdiagnosing this (I'm going to separate doctors at walk-in clinics each time and it's rare that they even record that I was there/have a history of sending my samples to the lab) or I have become immune to the antibiotics after repeat treatment. I also picked up some very expensive D-Mannose pills this morning at a natural food store which are supposed to lure the e-coli out of the urinary tract naturally yet I have not seen any significant results.
I recently took up smoking while drinking again and fear that this could be a culprit. Anyone have any advice?
