Did you ever get to exactly what this is? My son gets this Cheerio thing anywhere from 1-3 times a month. I am really worried about him.

I’ve dealt with this issue since 1996. At that time I was eating Tums by the handful, neutralizing the acid in my stomach. Once I stopped eating Tums, the burps/vomiting/diarrhea stopped occurring. That is until I began taking Prilosec in the mid 2000s. I stopped taking the medication after I couldn’t deal with the burps anymore. I now get them about twice a year. At the first sign/taste of a burp, I drink apple cider vinegar (raw, organic with the mother) and problem solved 99.9% of the time!
I just had an episode about 30 minutes ago and I knew it was too late for the ACV to work, so I did the one other thing that works. I forced myself to vomit in order to get the food that has been sitting in my stomach out and avoided the diarrhea.
One thing I forgot to mention, early on when this first started, I would get the burps, followed by vomiting and diarrhea at the same time. All of the liquid had exited my stomach which caused the diarrhea and my stomach contents were virtually solid/dry and very painful.

Hey, my daughter had the same issue. We thought that she's acting up when she said that her burping has a "cheerio" aroma. Or, at least, that she just overate with snacks. But when she started having frequent diarrhea we knew something isn't right. Finally, she got diagnosed with lactose intolerance, but with only a mild case of it. We cut out some dairy products from her meal plan and everything went back to normal. Luckily for us it wasn't any serious stomach issue.

I get this when I take probiotics. I tried four times (a couple of months each time) w/three different brands, & suffered the same result with all of them; even after the very first dose. Each time I stopped taking them, the foul tasting & smelling burping stopped. As soon as I started up again, so did the burps. I don't take them anymore.

My burps taste exactly like “Fritos” cone chips. It’s not long after a few burps when it’s is violently coming out of both ends. I hope it doesn’t last long

Every so often I will burp and a BAD smell comes up with it. Any ideas on what this means or be caused by? How do I stop it?

I have been suffering from this as well. Once I stopped my Prilosec and my stomach acid increased the cheerio burps went away. For about 3 months and then they returned. I believe what we are all describing are symptoms of SIBO, small intestine bacterial overgrowth. Withholding sugars, carbs, and alcohol is the best way to keep it at bay, but it would require some anti-biotic regimen to completely overcome.
