I had very bad kidney infection recently. I didn’t have problems urinating, no pain, no increased frequency, but had pain in my low back. I had over 500 thousands bacteria in urine sample. Sounds horrible, but doctor told me that that was normal amount for that type of infection. My WBC was also very, very high. That scared me even more. It was 20 millions per litre. Too much for kidney infection or not?

Well it may depend on type of WBC that is elevated and that can be checked by WBC differential. Normal WBC levels are between 4.5 and 11 millions per litre. In severe infections they really drastically elevate. I believe that you doctor would have told you something about that? Like he explained meaning of presence of that amount bacteria in urine sample. But ask him anyway and do wbc differential.
