I have the same! I've always been a singer. Church, choir in school, along with the radio...now I have no range. I can't howl at my husky to get him singing. I can't yell either!

On February 23rd of 2017 I had radiation to shrink and kill my thyroid it's been over 6 months and I used to be able to sing very well it was my life at one point and now it's so sad because if I even try to it's just scratchy and I strain my voice and then I can barely talk for a week I just started a replacement thyroid pill and I'm hoping that at one point in time everything will be the way it once was and my voice will come back stronger than ever but for now it's definitely gone. Prayers to me...

I had a total thyroidectomy in March and my voice is horrible. I can't scream or hit high notes. If I sing really really low you can't tell but u wouldnt be able to hear me sing unless you were directly in my face. My voice goes in and out. It also gets tired quickly whether Im talking or singing. And it always feels like Im straining to talk. My surgeon recommend I see a speech therapist so I will be seeing one next month in August. Hopefully they can figure something out. My endo did tell me it can take up to a year for me to recover. But I really dont wanna wait that long because its nerve wracking not to have my voice that Im suppose to have.

It's your recurrent nerve that gets fatigue when you use your voice to much. I had the same problem and still don't have high pitch and I had a partial thyroidectomy on March and the revision on June. I was very hoarse after the first surgery but I found some voice excersises on the internet and they helped a lot and now I almost have my speaking voice back. I still cannot sing, but hope to soon. We have to be patient and with faith it will be back completely.

Can you explain "choking up"? My thyroid needs to come out and I think I might be having the same issue.

I'm really sorry to hear this . I just want to let you know that I get it. I'm about to have surgery... And the only thing I care about is getting my voice back. Idk when this was written... Perhaps you're doing better now...
My voice was compromised for awhile before they accidently figured out I have a tumor in my thyroid... I was so relieved! Lol! Singing is my passion, my therapy... I thought I was just losing it all... But then when I read about the risks to the vocal chords and nerves ect... Damn... I think I will take the advice of someone here who said to find a surgeon who cares about perserving my voice...
Let me know how you're doing it You wish!
God bless. ☺

I feel your pain :(
I used to sing a bit and haven’t been able to since I had a TT in 2010 . My range is only a third of what it used to be . If I attempt to push through a hard note for an extended period of time , I will be hoarse the next few days . It’s very saddening and depressing .

I’m getting ready to have a thyroidectomy. Due to previous surgeries I have total right side vocal paralysis. I’m so scared that I won’t ever have a voice again. Has anyone had anything similar to my problem?

I had a complete thyroidectomy last year in May. Like you, I cannot sing. My voice goes away if I talk too long. I cannot change octaves or pitch.

I had total thyroidectomy in 2015. I am...was a professional singer. I can no longer sing like I used to. I do not have the range or belting power I once had. Given the choice of dying from cancer or singing I choose living....but I can no longer do solos for weddings, churches or perform anywhere. When I do sing I must lower the key of song and make sure no high notes. I fatigue quickly also. So leading choir, my voice is exhausted by end of practice. I wish I could have my power talent back.
