Okay! I have suffered from burning, stinging etc. in my vagina for 13 months. Long sad story! But I believe I have figured it out. It all started with a yeast infection. Before that once in a while my husband would say I burned him after sex. I began to notice it was always a few day b4 my period. At the time I didn't think much of it. I then developed horrible acid reflux. I got Nexium from my primary doc. After a few months he sent me to a gastro doc. I had an endoscopy (camera down throat) A month b4 he changed my prescription to Protonic. I then developed a horrible yeast infection. The cream killed... I went to 3 different gynocologists. They also gave my Diflucan Burnnnnnnnn Ouch!!! Itching gone not burning. I kept taking the Protonix. I notice that the burning was getting a little better but right b4 my period ouch!!!! Still no lightbulb. Went to Pelvic floor doc in NYC. He told my I need to do Kegels-its my pelvic floor. Okay I am a Pilates instructor. I do them all the time but I'll do more! Not so helpful. Back to the gyno. She said "You look burned" I was like I know I am. She attributed to 5 months prior when I used the cream for the yeast. The life crisis with my husband-I'll spare the details but you can probably guess. Wife-burning vagina-limited sex-not feeling so sexy! Okay I stopped eating. Stop all my supplements stop my Protonix and only drank coffee. My Vagina was on fire. Still no connection. My acid reflux also killed. I started taking my Protonix about a week later and began to eat like 3 weeks later. I was so nice and thin but had a burning vagina:) Forget jeans. Then in July one of my students said her nephrew is the Vulvadynia specialist that know everything. I waited 2 months for an appointment. So much for knowing the aunt. It cost $1300. No insurance. He kept me and my husband waiting over 2 hours. He said my pelvic floor was hyper tight. He did a vinager test to check for cancer-no cancer -no yeast. Still taking my Protonix. After that test he wipe me with water. About 20 minutes later. I said to my husband I feel better no burning. I thought he was the miracle doctor. This doc told my soak in tubs 2/3 times a day and come into NYC once a week for internal pelvic floor work. Did all those things. No help. Then I decided-not sure why-that maybe I don't need to take my Protonix so much. My heartburn is better. Why should I take meds? So I filled a prescription in October. By November I had yeast again. Funny when I had yeast the burning was better. The gyno gave my Diflucan. Took it. Yeast gone burning back! Next month another yeast. No more chemicals I started shooted pure acidopholus interally. It worked. Then the burn. December same thing. Now its January. And I am so over this whole thing.Went to an allergy doc who peformed test. Not many allergy but her gave my three allergy meds. No help! I slept well though. Then one day my therapist (yes I have a therapist, wouldn't you?) Says to me that sometimes doctors don't treat the body as a whole. But rather like a machine and they are assigned a certain part. THE BODY WORKS TOGETHER! Lightbulb! My acid reflux burns and so does my vagina. I first went on a very restricted diet. Vegetables, oatmeal. Then I took my protonix again. 2 a day. I still had my October prescription almost 1/2 full. I was really not taking it. Then I took Galvascon. Oh my g-d. No burn. It's been 4 days. I am doing it religiously. My vagina in healing. The skin in healing. No burn. I realized the following things: 1)Too much acid in your vagina disrupts the PH levels and encourages yeast and bacteria growth 2)B4 my period my discharge is always heavier-hence my husband complaining of me burning him and more pain for me 3)Yoga was so helpful to me over these 13 months b/c it aided in my digestion 4)One protonix might have help with my heartburn but not my vaginal burn 5)Nexium was better for me. 6)Bathes felt so good b/c it wiped away the discharge 7)Sex burned b/c of the acid in my discharge And so now, today I am going back to my gastro doc to tell him this long saga. And maybe get some medical explanations about this. I am sure he will put me though some tests. I don't care whatever. I am not saying that this is a cure all for all of us with Vulvadynia. But if you have similiar symptoms. It's so easy to try the test-About 20 minutes prior to a meal take Galvascon (I tried Rolaids and Tums not as effective) If you feel better in you vagina Run to a Gastrointerologist! There are so many woman suffering and I hope this helps. Good Luck! Laura

Was later suggested for me to increase my water intake and to drink half of my body weight in ounces. 140 lbs = 70 oz. of water a day. I also started taking Lactobacillus to assist with my PH.
This has worked 110% for me!! I know this may not work for everyone out there, but I pray this may help many others.

Also get tested to see if you have IC = bladder problem which causes the pain. My bladder never hurt but I have it and getting it treated has helped the vulvadynia.

The interesting thing is that I just went to an OB for burning during intercourse (and my normal doctor felt two "bumps" on my vaginal wall during my physical exam) and she told me I have vulvadynia, so I decided to research it and found this post. But my vaginal burning is not constant, it's only when something touches it inside. My Dr. told me that vulvadynia is a pain syndrome involving the nerves in certain areas of the vulva, and that it can occur after yeast infections. She didn't say anything about my vaginal secretions being too acidic, although a long time ago I had that hypothesis, but I don't think that was correct.

I think you are right. I have been burning for over a year now. And for the past 2 weeks I was taking 300mg prescribed generic Zantac. And no burning, not even after I peed. And I was able to have sex. But I ran out of the meds and the burning came back :(

Hi, I was just wondering if you felt the constant need to urinate during the burning sensations? I have been battling this for over a month, and I am almost at my witts end! Burning and the pressure to urinate. I went to see a Urologist who couldn't find anything wrong, but the labyia and clitoris regions are sore to touch.

It's my story...but I would add that I had a huge fibroid in the same time. My obgyn attributed the pain (burning, stinging) to it and told me that an hysterectomy was the only solution! I never believed her. I changed my diet and try to keep it balanced. A lot of greens! No coffee, no sugar (freaking yeast!) I'm not pain free, but before my period...I eat alkaline foods. It's been more than a year that I live in hell with that debilating pain...but now I think I got it! PH!!
