thank you so much for these info. I was planning on having the procedure done but after reading all these post and everybody complaining on the weight gain. Im not doing it. In the information brochure the MD give me they do not talk about gain weight side effect. I think i will endure the pain and the bleeding over gaining 35lbs.

Thank you ladies

I had the procedure done in January 2009. I shot up 40lbs all in my stomach. I cannot get it off. My stomach is bloated and I look 3 months pregnant. I have no pain, periods, nothing else wrong.

I had extremely heavy bleeding back in 2006 and became severly anemic. Not a good time at all. Finally, after weeks of no relief, my dr. suggested the novasure procedure. I have to say that I had NOT had any weight gain. I do work out and diet, however, other than maybe carrying around an xtra 6 pounds, I have no other issues. I am 52 and do not get a period any longer. The only thing I have to gauge is when it is my time because my body still on occasion gets cramps and I get bloated.

I'm glad I had it done for a few reasons. But have had weight gain my ob guarantees me it wasn't the procedure cause they didn't mess with hormones but I don't know my other friend had it done and also complains of weight gain. Sexton is better cause can have anytime so that is good. No bleeding after sex. That is a new one to me I had it 3years ago.

I had the Thermal Ablation in January of 2012. I had been on my period for 2 months straight so they told me an ablation would be the best way to stop it. I ended up with a yellow discharge that smelled terrible a week later. It was an infection so they put me on pills and it did clear it up. Since they I still have my periods but they last longer and I have urine leakage that drives me crazy which I didn't have before. Sometimes for no reason I start bleeding very heavy and it last's for a couple of says and then slows down. I would never do it again. Not a good experience and yes weight gain of 30 pounds in the first 6 weeks and I was watching what I ate. I had never been told or read that this could happen. I have worked hard to loose the weight and was eating healthy when I gained it. Nothing seems to work.

I had an ablation in Oct 2011 and have gained 6 lbs and most of it in my stomach. So depressing! I haven't changed my eating habits and exercise regularly and always have. I'm 51, 5'7" and weigh 154. I have never struggled with weight gain until now.

if i understand correctly............Ablation reduces the amount of estrogen. It could be like in other situations where estrogen is low and demand is still high....the body gets it from creating fat storage. it could also be from restricted blood flow.....also reducing the amount of hormones just like tubal ligation. A large belly is what happens in menopause. When estrogen is lower than androgens wieght is gained in the belly. Every procedure changes all the body chemistry. It all directly impacts the endocrine system. Also, just becasue thyroid tests come back in normal range doesn't mean its effectively working in the body anymore or as it did before. Don't even get me started on that..............research your results and the full scope of blood tests that need to be done to FULLY evaluate proper thyroid and parathyroid function. MAybe..................there are many factors.

I, too, have experienced significant weight gain after the procedure. Mine was in Dec. 2008, & I am up 70 pounds last check. I am extremely depressed as I have never been overweight. I've never worn a size larger than a 6 or an 8, but now I have to buy a size 14 with an elastic section in the waistband because most of my weight is in the tummy. A this point, I'm afraid to even step on a scale for fear that I've gained more weight. I eat healthy & exercise regularly... I even tried Doctor's weight loss & have yet to lose anything. I wish I had never had this done. It's wrong for doctors to omit import information when discussing a surgery with a patient. Weight gain, low to non-existent sex drive, & extreme fatigue are not really a fair trade off for no periods.

I had the procedure done 5 months ago. I have gained 10 pounds around my waist like they describe as a side effect. I am an avid runner and dieter, so there is no other explanation for the weight gain. Before the procedure I had an active sex life, now I have no sex drive at all. In addition, I am very dry down there...but I think I would do it again to stop the heavy constant periods.

I had mine over 3 years ago and still get my period.  I gained about 25 pounds all around the middle.  The doctor told me to just eat less. I wanted to jump across his desk and smack him.  I've gone for days without eating and my weight doesn't budge.  It's been really upsetting.  I will exercise for 2 hours a day and only eat salads get on the scale and find I've gained 2 pounds.  It feels like I am going crazy.  I'm scheduled for a hysterecomy in 3 weeks.  I hope that finally makes a difference.

I have been booked in to have this procedure done in 2 weeks time and I am really starting to re-consider my decision I already have issues with my weight due to other medications I take I don't want to gain anymore weight and my Dr never said anything about weight issues with this procedure there are so many women on here saying they have weight poblems afterwards if this is the case then I will not go through with this as a long term weight problem is more trouble than a heavy scattered period

I had a thermal ablation in November of 2009. I, too, have gained weight--30 pounds, I had 4 kids and always got back to my normal weight of 125 pounds (I'm 5' 10" with small bones). Not fun to be gaining weight 24 years after my last child was born! I'm 54 now. Remember, we had this procedure done because of heavy bleeding/cramping, bleeding between periods, being peri-menopausal, etc. I, too, took birth control pills for several years to try to control the bleeding, I might be wrong, but I'm not sure it's the thermal ablation that "causes" our weight gain. I think that, at least in my case, it's more to do with hormone balance. I am appalled that our ob-gyns will tell us to take birth control pills and recommend hysterectomies or thermal ablations WITHOUT doing some blood work or other tests to check for hormone imbalances. It's known that low progesterone causes heavy bleeding and weight gain--I have found this information within the last year. I think we all need to forego conventional medicine, in which the insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies tell doctors what to do and push unnecessary medications onto patients, and seek out a good naturopath or a functional medicine specialist that treats the whole person and not just a particular symptom. I'm looking for one now. Good luck, everybody!
