I had the procedure done June 07. I was 35 years old and had issues with my cycles after my tubal. I would have cycles that lasted 45 days off for a week or 2 then back to 45 days long again. I spoke to my doctor he told me about the ablation. I researched it, thought it was a perfect cure for my issue. I never read any thing about weight gain, or long lasting issue that may occur. I did read that if you did not experience a cycle for more than a year you would never have a cycle again, you were sterile. After surgery I had no pain, no problems, no issues with sex life. It was great !
Five years later at 40, I went through serious changes. I was diagnosed Bi-Polar, anxiety disorder, OCD, Anger issues, IBS and diverticulitis. I figured well I am 40 now and I am going to go through body changes and I have a family history. Since I hit 40 I have had severe weight gain all in the belly area, began having cramping and bloating, when my daughters were cycling, but never had any bleeding. Again thought it was just part of life.
2 years later, I am now 42, its been just over 7 1/2 years. I have put on over 45 lbs in my belly, and as of Sept 25, 2013 I had my first period in for ever.. I have severe cramps, nausea, lower back pain and severe headache. I am crying for no reason, so tired and blah (don't know how else to explain it) I went on line to find out if this is normal for this stuff to happen so many years later. I was actually scared thought maybe something else was wrong..I have regular check ups (just had one 3 weeks ago with blood work) everything is good. I've been worried about the weight gain. I am not a big eater, not much into sweets and fried foods. don't eat fast food or pizza. normally eat only 2 meals a day breakfast and dinner and they are small. Do to my other medical issues I can not work out the way I did in my younger years, but I do swim and walk a lot. I do not lay around and watch tv I am always cleaning or running around up and down stairs, I also do day care, So I am always playing with the kids. So far cry from lazy. I do not know what else to do to lose weight.
Has anyone else had these issues so many years after the procedure ?

I understand your frustration. I didn't have an ablation but had an unnecessary hysterectomy (also 7-1/2 years ago) and am suffering many of the same hormonal symptoms as well as bowel problems which started almost immediately post-hysterectomy. Look up post ablation syndrome. Since the ovaries and uterus work as a unit, any procedure that disrupts their normal functioning can cause permanent problems. These include tubal sterilization, ablation, hysterectomy, ovary or tube removal (one or both).
Despite ablation being marketed as a hysterectomy alternative, a study in Pubmed shows that if done prior to age 46 it increases the risk of hysterectomy. That risk increases for 8 years post ablation. For women undergoing ablation prior to age 41, the rate of subsequent hysterectomy is 40%. According to studies, having a tubal increases risk of post ablation syndrome. The reason for this is that the hormonal actions of the ovaries continue to cause the uterine lining to build. But with the scarred lining (and possibly a stenotic cervix that can result from ablation), the blood has nowhere to go causing engorgement and even backing up into tubes. This can cause pelvic and back pain and a distended belly. Ovarian function can also be compromised explaining your other symptoms. I've read where some women had to have their cervix dilated to allow the blood to escape which then gave them relief. Since you just had a period after 7-1/2 years without one, maybe things will improve. If not, I would have to wonder if there could still be an accumulation of blood that can't shed (either because of the scarring or a somewhat stenotic cervix).
Although you obviously don't need birth control pills, they may improve your symptoms. And then when you hit menopause, it seems the cramping, bloating, and back pain should subside.
