My friend has a serious problem with plaque in heart arteries. He is 35 years old and I was really surprised that he has this kind of problem. I think that he is too young to have plaque in arteries. I’m asking what can cause plaque to built up in arteries?

As you know, the plaque that blocks arteries builds up over many years. It occurs when fat, cholesterol, and other substances build up in the walls of arteries and form hard substances called plaque. Your arteries have an inner muscular layer. Plaque forms when this inner muscular layer is damaged.
