It's nothing to worry about. There are actually nerves in your sphincter that get triggered when you poop and they are the same ones that send the message to your brain to produce tears. Some people grow out of it, others don't.

Just had this problem... again... And resorted to google. This is the only thing I could find but it was a little useful.
I just wish someone had found what caused it so I could stop it I can't use public bathrooms anymore.
I guess it's creepy to other people when some girl is crying while going number 2. '''OTL

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one! I'm only 14 now, but I've been having this problem since I was a kid. I mostly start tearing when doing number 2, only a few times when doing number 1. I found it strange though ... crying while using the bathroom I mean

I Have also had this problem all my life but only when i do #2(poop). I happens rarely when i urinate,,but my mom told me it is because when you use the bathroom you strain which causes you to tear as if you were crying. Im not sure if she's right but thats the only conclusion i have came to. Hope This Helped =)

I just saw a post on yahoo answers about a girl who had done a science project on this... she "found out (this is gonnna sound really gross but sorry!!) that in your anal sphinctor you have three areas that hit the same part of your brain that tells your tear ducts to create tears," and thus the signals get crossed, and your eyes water.

Bizarre.

This happens to me too! I am not embarrassed im 23 and married and my husband just thinks its funny! I just am looking on google to see why it happens. I think its hereditary because i think it happens to my siblings also. For all you that are younger and don't want to grow up this way, you should rethink it because its not that bad it could always be worse!! XD

I'm so glad to know that I'm not alone!! Its always happened to me ever since I was 3 or 4 that I can remember. If i blink it looks like I'm crying. I remember when I was little I asked my friend if it happened to her and she looked at me like I was nuts so I never really brought it back up. If anyone ever finds an answer for this it would be nice to know :-D

I am so glad to see many people here who are facing the same problem that i have been facing ever since i remember. When i was small, i used to think this is very common .. but very recently when i askd my friends about it, they were like, u should be kidding. even my family doesn't believe me..they just laught it out. Happy to know none of u are faciing any problems because of this. Thats a big relief !!!

It's normal, and happens to a lot of people.

I thought there were only like 5 other people in the world who have this problem. That's reassuring to see a few more!

It might seem unrelated to you all, but I am trying to see if having really slender fingers is connected to this matter. Does anyone else have a ring size smaller than 5 (about 4.75)???

Thank you!

I've noticed this for a long time about myself. I noticed that my eyes water a little after I've had a very good dump, meaning I feel it moving down, my stomach is telling me it's time, there's no sitting on the toilet pushing and straining, it moves right along and it's over so quick, and I feel so much relief, I think it's a physical indication, maybe it's an emotional gratification of having a regular dump. If I'm constipated, all I succeed in doing is turning red, running out of breath from pushing and sweating and being pissed off, my eyes never water when I'm constipated! TMI people? :-D. In a nutshell who the hell knows why a persons eyes water when they go potty? All I know for me it's the equivalent emotionally of shedding some tears at a movie that has an extremely happy ending....if you're sensitive enough to cry out of happiness....
