Lol, so amazing that we found eachother here. There is NO INFO on this weird thing whatsoever.

I am 26, female, and also have this 'problem' you guys are describing here. I always 'cry' during #2 and most of the time during #1 (but not always, not sure why) and... dun dun dun during SEX O.o :/ That one is especially bumming me out, because -while I poop and pee on my own in the toilet- it usually takes two to have sex...

It also happens during mastrubation, basically, any friction-penetration, be it vaginal or anal. Clitoral stimulation itself dosn't cause this.

Since I have always cried during peeing and pooing, and started having the same reaction while sex (penis put on the bladder, empty or not), I figured it's all joined. And tears really run like crazy during sex, especially at the beginning, later I'm 'out of tears' so to speak and it stops. I don't have to add that it is embarassing explain this and partners can get freaked out by this and think that they're hurting me or something (when  they're not *_*) and I say that it's just 'a thing I do during sex' and that I have no control over it.

My question is: anyone having the same reaction while penetration? (question to females and gay men, I guess...)? If so, how do you deal with it? Any idea if we can 'cure it' ??? It doesn't really bother me because of what my partner thinks, but tears fall down my eyes so badly sometimes, that they end up in my ears and instead of enjoying sex, I have to focus on wiping my wet face and worrying if my ears won't clog from tears (lol)

take care everyone, we are a bunch of weirdos

I was recently looking this up myself and found it that this is completely normal. It actually happens to a lot of people. The whole reason I'm here is b/c my eyes begin to slightly water when passing a bowel movement. This is what I found, quoted from Dr. Oz:

"Dr Oz said that it is actually normal for some people to cry when they poop.  If you look at how your brain makes decisions, going to the bathroom happens naturally.  Your brain sends a message to your colon and says go to the bathroom, but the same parasympathetic system controls your tears, and so the signal can get crossed.  Dr Oz said that this is not rare and some people only figure out that this does not happen to everyone by comparing themselves to what their friends say.  Dr Oz said that some people can sweat or have blood pressure changes when they poop too!"

I really hoped this helped

Dr Oz said its common and its because the same part of your brain that is responsible for telling you you have to "go" controls that same part of the brain that causes eyes to water and the paths get crossed.

I'm a 41 year old female, and I've always shed tears when defecating since I was a baby. I don't see it as a 'problem', but it is a bit uncomfortable to have to explain to people that no, I wasn't 'crying' and nothing is wrong. I Googled this unusual trait a while back wondering if I was the only one experiencing it, and actually found the condition's name online. It was a weird long scientific name so I can't remember, and for the life of me I can't seem to get a hit on the right words I used before to find the same article.

We're definitely a special group of people, and if I remember correctly from that articled I read, only 5% of the population experience this trait.  I can't say it's hereditary because nobody else in my family experience it, and I have 3 boys, and neither one of them tear up when going to the bathroom.

I'm going to keep looking and hopefully will find that answer again. I don't totally buy the Dr. Oz answer found on other postings online, regarding a signal getting crossed somehow. But I know that tears are part of the excretion processes of the human body, to get rid of toxins and bad substances in our system, (even those caused by excess emotions) so I'd say we work better than most people to excrete out all kinds of bad stuff when moving our bowels, (or urinating for others), so be proud of it! ;-)

It's been a treat reading about all of my fellow 'tear-shedding-while-defecating' or urinating 'experiencers'. =-D

This happens because the brain mixes up signals from the anal and tear ducts/glands. It's quite common really.

Those are probably what are called reflex tears. Much as yawning, looking at a bright light, or eating hot/spicy food can make you tear up so can urination (although it is less common). It probably has some association with the parasympathetic division of the autonomic nervous system (since both tearing and yawning are functions of that system) but I'm not really sure. If it bothers you, you should check with your doctor about anything that might be done to prevent it however, it seems to be a harmless reflex that, although uncommon, is not abnormal. If you feel any other symptoms such as dizziness associated with urination you should talk to your doctor immediately as it may be due to low blood pressure.

I actually have the same problem and I've done a ton of research in it! It's not anything to worry about! It's as simple as this, the same part of your brain that tells your eyes to tear is the same part that tell you butt you have to poop. Sometimes they cross paths which leads to what my friends like to call crying poop.

I have had the same issue for as long as I can remember, I asked my father about it, he said I might have a bladder infection, to which i responded" since i was a child"....he replied " A really long bladder infection...?" I asked him if he had the same issue when he went to the bathroom and he said" Hon, i cry when I pee, because at my age it is a celebration"

While funny that was not much help, so I did some research this is what I found:

"Dr Oz said that it is actually normal for some people to cry when they poop.  If you look at how your brain makes decisions, going to the bathroom happens naturally.  Your brain sends a message to your colon and says go to the bathroom, but the same parasympathetic system controls your tears, and so the signal can get crossed.  Dr Oz said that this is not rare and some people only figure out that this does not happen to everyone by comparing themselves to what their friends say.  Dr Oz said that some people can sweat or have blood pressure changes when they poop too!"

* So I would probably make the safe leap that the same reaction occurs while you are urinating."

I also found this:

The cause of the condition may lie in the brain or in the facial nerves, according to the report. Both the production of tearsand the passing of urine are under the control of a brain region called the pons. There are also cases of crocodile tear syndrome occurring from birth, and these cases may be due to the nerves crossing over during embryonic development, the researchers wrote. If such an abnormal nerve connection could cause a person to have produce tears while eating or drinking, a similar process could cause a person to produce tears when they urinate, according to the report.

I have this problem too, no matter whether I'm pooing or peeing, my eyes tear up (does wonders for my makeup lol) I've been reading down this comment thread and some the answers stuck out to me. Just out of curiosity, what race are you all? I can infer that since I'm Indian, it might come from the an adaptive trait that shielded our eyes from sand or desert pathogens. I think location and geography is pretty important here.

I do the same thing. It is not rare, but it doesn't happen to everyone. The part of your brain that tells you you need to go to the bathroom is the same part that controls your tear ducts so sometimes those signals can get crossed. Nothing to worry about, not harmful or anything.
