It is nothing to be concerned with. I am a 40 year old woman who was having vital signs check in the doctor’s office when my heart rate spiked over 150! The nurse was frightened for me and took my vitals again when my heart returned to about 78 within seconds of the 150 mark. She alerted the doc who sent me to a cardiologist. I wore a monitor that would record if I felt an episode come on and it captured 2 of them for the doctor to read, which he told me was rare to catch even one. I got an EKG and then a sonogram and was told he is not harmful at all to me. It just happens in some people. I am a low-iron anemic woman but he said it didn't have anything to do with that...but, by the sound of the reviews here, many of you who are experiencing the same things are too so it may have some kind of connection. I wouldn't hold my breath like the 13 year old suggested...not that it would do much harm but it won't help either. It will pass within a few seconds to a minute or so and you should be fine. If it doesn't hurt or really affect you, there isn't much to do about it. If it hurts or bothers your day to day activities, they do have medication for it but that would be for severe cases. I would check with a cardiologist and demand they provide an EKG and perhaps even a sonogram of your heart to make sure your valves are fine and your heart is healthy other than your excessive, sporadic beats.

I am also 25 and the first time this happened I was in like 5th grade. It has happened over the years, not often but just this past week it did at work. I am at a loss as to what is the reasoning also. Out of nowhere my heart beats so fast I feel like I cannot breath then I have to mentally calm myself down and within a few minutes it will finally subside. I do not smoke, do drugs, drink caffeine..I am a healthy normal weight female but it scares me. I wonder if this means I am prone to heart attacks? Does anyone know?

I am 21 and a female and am have some what the same thing you all are describing. It happened during the beginning of summer 2010 i went in for a normal doctors appointment. we had been running late because of traffic. so we ran to get there on time. when they took me back to get my vitals they noticed my heart rate was at something like 155. they let me calm down from my rushing and took it again in 20-30mins it was still really high around 130. so they did at EKG on me. the doc was worried about this and told me that i need to have some test done on me and to make an appointment with cardiology as so as i could. so i did. i saw cardiology about a month later. they took another EKG with my heart rate being around 115 and told me i needed to have an Eco cardiogram done and to wear a holter monitor for 24hrs. The Eco cardiogram showed nothing wrong just that i had a very tinny VSD when i was born. The holter monitor also showed my VSD but no signs of why i would have a fast heart rate. they told me to come back in 6months so i did this past Dec. when i got there they took another EKG and said my heart rate was around the high 90's close to 100. The doc told me i was on the high side of normal with my heart rate. he said i should be in the range of 60-80 at my age. then told me to come back in another 6 months to run the tests over again. Just recently i have been feeling palpitations of my heart in my chest. I kinda wish i knew what was wrong with me i am in perfect health as far as fitness goes.

Im 22, i had the same problem, infact ive gone through countless tests, and ekgs, and monitors with no results of it showing up.
It just shows up out of no where, my heart will start palpitating hard, fast, at a steady rate, sometimes it would go very long.
One time at work, it started out of no where, it was beating so fast, that i had to call a ambulance, luckily they hooked me up to a ekg and recorded my attack in the ambulance and ran the results out to all of my cardiologist, which one of them had a good eye out and diagnosed me with SVT. (supraventricular tachycardia). I underwent a surgery to cut/burnout a extra nerve in the heart, that regulates the heart rate.. and ive never had a that problem, for longer then a few seconds.
Technology is amazing these days, they did it all with 2 giant magnets, and a room that looks like the computer room on the matrix on the Nebuchadnezzar.

im 20 years old and have been waking up in the early morning, sometimes nights or most of the time through out the day, where my heart is racing i cant understand why this is because im a healthy young adult, i dont eat c**p all the time i dont and i dont drink most very often. My doctors are rubbish i tell them 1 thing and they dont treat it, for e.g i have asthma and i recently woke in the middle of the night struggling to breath, i remaind calm and i was fine, i went to the doctors the next morning and spoke to the doctor about what happend and he said your fine so this is my point i need to know why my heart keeps racing and plus have a reliable doctor who can answer my questions.

I am 29 years old and been experiencing the same problem since I'm 26. Usually it happens at night while lying in bed ready for sleep or sometimes after a meal. The fast heart beat is usually accompanied by difficulty in breathing, numbness of the hands and legs, heavy head, fast and hard heart beat, heart burn, chest pain and the feeling that you have no enough oxygen at your brain almost like im having heart attack. Last two years ago I undergone all diagnosis test which includes ECG, 2D-Echo, Holter Monitor and gladly everything is normal. Even though, just to pacify me my cardiologist recommended Propanolol (a beta blocker) which I took for 1 month just to relieve the symptoms. After the one month period i stopped taking the medicine and everything goes well for me. However the same symptoms returned within a month now (which is after I heard someone i knew of my age suffered mild stroke) They are telling me im paranoid and it's all in the mind. I stopped all tiring routine im doing and I took blood works which were very normal including my BP. So i started taking the beta blocker once again and im hoping for relief but im taking the medicine not on regular basis but only during the time that im experiencing the rapid heart beat and lie on my side and pray.

I read something about panic attack and hyperthyroidism try to read it as well.

Drink water to flush out the sodium. Whenever this happens to me I just drink about 3 cups or 1-2 glasses of water and it stops after the water goes down. I think it has something to do with too much sodium or sometimes sugar but it happens most with foods high in sodium. Water flushes the sodium out.

Today is my 41 birthday and I was sitting at the computer and my heart started racing. It scared me and I had my husband feel my heart beat because it was so fast. I have recently had heart pains briefly while working out. This scares me. Since I first felt the pain earlier I have had my heart start to beat fast but not as strong or as long as the first time. I am a very heathy person, should I see a doctor?

Hi.

My name is Rachel. I'm Nineteen. I Usually drink caffiene through the day and smoke alot. I've gotten used to the fact that my resting heart is really high but lately it's been hard to move and sleep without intense heart palpitations, and I've had these anxiety attacks that can't make go away. I don't have too much trouble breathing but I do feel as though my breath is running out and there's this erie feeling of fatigue and just...hopelessness. I am often afraid and my heart never rests. I Haven't smoked or drank sense these episodes which never go away. I know there is something irregular going on with my heart. But I'm wondering if it could be an anxiety disorder. I'm going to see a doctor soon but I feel like this really is the end of the road for me.

Can anyone help me, tell me what's going on.

About a month ago. I was sitting on my couch watching tv. All of a sudden i had this strange feeling and my heart started racing. I felt like I could not breath and was freaking out. My wife was trying to calm me down while I was trying to get her to call 911 but she knew what was going on. I was supposedly having a panic attack. I had never had one so I didn't know what was going on. I went to the doctor because my heart rate went up to 120 and stayed there even ater I went to bed. The doctor confirmed that it was  a panic attack and gave me some medicine to calm me down when I felt I was about to panic. The doctor told me i was stressed. I told him i didnt fell stressed and asked him if it was common to be stressed and not be aware of it. He said yes. my bp also wnet up to like 150/ 100 so he gave me some blood pressure med as well. I have been ok for about a month. now i am having some of the same feelings that everyone else has described. I can be doing nothing and my heart will start to race, then it will slow down to almost nothing. It scares me to death but everyone assures me Im just stressed ot worried. maybe i am or maybe im not. I just dont know. I went to the gym last night and was there for about ten minutes. I know when you workout that your heart rate goes up but not like it did last night . it spiked to 142-147 in a matter of seconds. i sat down for a few minutes but it still was beating so fast and hard. I went home immediatly and took some medicine to relax me. My heart rate slowed a bit but still not into normal range. Im also 22 years old and I am a bit  heavier than i should be, but not drastically. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.
