I been wondering why my heart beat so fast at times. I so glade to know that i not the only one who have this problem. I think to myself maybe I'm dying. My started when i was 15 years old playing soccer in high school i have not eat that day and was hungry running around the school. I'm 25 years old now and have three kids. I don't get it every day only happen once a month or maybe once every few months and i don't know why.  Sometime i just sitting down not doing anything and the heart just start beating fast like it going to jump out of my chest while it happening it make me feel so weak that i want to lay down and just relax until it stop. When i got pregnant with my first son i when in to check on it, but the doctor never really tell me what going on because everything is normal so i don't know what causing this to happen. I ask around for answer but no one really know why. I was not a healthy eater when i was in my teenager years, but now i try to eat healthy and work out, but when my heart beat fast i make me stop doing it. I'm scared and wondering why this is happen to me. I not over weight or anything so why is this happen? Why can the doctor tell me what is wrong with me? Is there anything that can help me? Is this something i need to worry about I'm really scared.

next time you see your doctor you can ask him to set you up with a holter monitor. This will monitor your hear rate for a long time and record it, so if you feel your heart beat fast when you are using the monitor, you can tell your doctor about it and he can check the record to see if anything is wrong. If nothing is wrong then it is just anxiety making you feel uncomfortable, but it is best to get it checked out to make sure.

ive had the same problem for years just like you guys and it was happening to me when i was reading all this, desperately trying to figure out what was wrong. but whoever you are who said to hold your breath in, your right! as soon as i read that i inhaled and held my breath for about fifteen seconds and it stopped immediately. to be honest i think its just an adolescence thing i mean were all about the same age except that guy whos like 51...hes probably got something worth worrying about. sorry man.

Wow, its been a while since anyone has written. I'm 25 and I have the dramatic heart beat (really fast and thumping out of my chest) every now and again. It used to be more often say a few years ago when I used to drink lattes/coffee. But thats why I stopped, I am in good health, I am at a healthy weight and I eat plenty of veggies and almost no fast food. The only fast food that I crave on occasion is PIZZA and pizza is the only thing left that does to me. And I see from alot of posts that for most of you it happens after you eat.

I think what it is that might be making our hearts race is the need for extra blood for digestion. Pizza is the only food I don't fully chew, unlike when I eat veggies or healthier meals. Pizza to me is about - getting it to my stomach before the cheese gets cold. So I don't chew it up properly so my body has to work twice as hard, if not harder to digest it.

Problem is, even hours after I've ate my heart is still thumping and its very uncomfortable/worrysome. I wouldn't've been able to make that guess without seeing so many people having that problem esp. after they eat. If seriously fast heart beating happens after you eat, you can attempt to change it by chewing :-| your meal thoroughly and drinking hot water with lemon before you eat to stimulate your digestion.

Tyler,

A lot of doctors these days are corrupt, either intentionally or unintentionally.  Most docs are educated in pharmaceuticals rather than natural healing/holistic medicine. Which is a super bummer.  Its easier for us to know that something is wrong cus its our bodies and we know when something is different, but drs don't always take the time to get to the bottom of stuff. TRUST ME.

I recommend changing your health-life style. Its a hard thing to do and I definitely wasn't ready for those changes when I was 18. I think an accumulation in lifestyle changes will help your over all well-being. I've noticed in my life, that many stressful everyday things cause reactions to stress that in turn created more stress. And its a cycle that for most of us, only makes us more unhealthy/more sick. As all these stresses & reactions to stress build up we cause our own health defects and cause our own symptoms which eventually accumulate into diseases. All this is unintentional, no one is aware usually until its too late, when the doctor is telling you that he doesn't know what is causing this and that he's not sure what all these symptoms are adding up to. One of the health defects that I developed was hypoglycemia, which thankfully with awareness and changing my lifestyle and how I react to stress, I was able to reverse. On the other hand, a friend of mine is not so fortunate. Her diagnosis isn't for sure, but the drs shes seen think she might have Fibromyalgia. She is unaware that her habits may have caused her current situation, living with what she thinks is Fibromyalgia is stressing her out even more and she is getting worse. :'(

Lack of sleep causes bodily stress, whether you think it affects you or not, not getting enough water causes bodily stress. I recommend taking steps to preserve life. Consume more water, consume more raw foods (eat out of boxes less) cooked veggies taste better. You will find you feel awesomer when you eat purer foods (rather than processed foods). Try to get 8 hours of sleep. Keep a positive outlook. <-- This part makes all the difference. I've experience depression and sadness can lower your immune system.  I'm reading a lot of alternate healing books right now and books to stay youthful (many people I've met say I'm not a day older than 19 HAHAHAHHA- I'm turning 26 this month- And I want to keep it that way!!!) But I'm seeking optimum health which leads to vitality.

To you, I recommend "Ageless Body, Timeless Mind", by Deepak Chopra, it is a book about awareness and the more you are aware of the more (of your body and body changes) you can control and reverse (like aging). There are many graspable ideas, but because they are new you might want to read them a couple times to help them sink in. The main purpose of the book is to introduce 10 new (open-minded) assumptions of our world view, if we can change our world view, then we can stop and even reverse the affects of growing old/becoming ill. I've read in many places that Yoga is like healing therapy, but I haven't tried it yet.

I think that nothing is wrong with you, you just need to get your over all health on track and you will be fine. If you are over all healthy, other than the smoking deal, I recommend "Overcoming Addictions" by Deepak Chopra. And I recommend perhaps chatting with a counselor if there is anything from your childhood that was upsetting. Though you might not think about it now, memories of an unsettling event creates just as much stress as the event itself. So if you deal with PTSD or have flashbacks, that can harm your overall health too.

Please let me know if I can answer any other questions, you may have. I hope this email has been somewhat helpful to you and your health.
Sincerely,
Crystal

Hi I am in my teens and a few weeks ago my heart started beating very fast and my side hurt. I went to the doctor and said I had costochrondritis. Yesterday I ran up the stairs in my house and my heart started beating very very fast. The middle of my chest felt tight. I felt very light headed and dizzy. I went to the er and was in there for over 3 hours.they did every test Possible and they all came out normal. The only bad thing they could see was that doing little activity makes my heart beat extremely fast. Nothing is wrong with my heart or blood pressure or vitamins minerals cholesterol. No one knows although every dr I've gone to has had a guess, but they are all different.

Dear Teen with Costochrondritis,
I'm no doctor, just a person like you, but I'll try to help. Do you drink coffee and or caffeinated soda/pop? It sounds like you might've gotten up too fast after being stationary for a while when you got dizzy only for going up the stairs. I could recommend adding low intensity exercise like swimming or hiking into your daily routine because if you body isn't used to exercise you might be startling your body by jolting up the stairs or by running to class~which might cause your body to react with a fast beating heart. I had a lot of chest pain when I was younger, try to consume less caffeine and less sugary foods (<--I know that one's a challenge). When you feel dizzy and light headed lay down on your back, bend your knees so that your feet are flat on the floor. That helps return your blood to your brain and helps you recover without passing out.  You should lay there as long as you need before you try to get up. If you're not too dizzy before you lay down, grab a washcloth and soak it in cold water, and put it over your forehead/face (whichever is more comfortable). Something else that should help altogether: get in the habit of taking deep breaths (all the time) breathe using your diaphragm more, don't just breathe in your upper chest.
I hope this is somewhat helpful and insightful for you. :-)

Best wishes for a healthier you.

you and me are all going to die, if it's what I have it means your heart is receiving electrical impulse from your brain telling it to beat faster when there is no real reason, It may seem just annoying at first but eventually your heart can't pump adequate blood and you black out or have dizzy spells. You may die consult your physician immediately and get the proper meds

Well i am 32 years and on Thursday i went to the doctor because i was sick and he picked up my heart was beating fast, 120 beats a minute while resting. He told me to rest and come back the next day. Last night he did an ECG on me and took blood. Today i was told not to worry as there is nothing wrong with my heart, It is my Thyroid that is causing my heart rate to be so high.

I suggest you all ask you doctors to do a blood test to determine what is the cause for your heart rates being so high.

Sounds silly, but sometimes i think my heart beats fast for no apparent reason, and in reply to the first guy, it's been happening a lot more since i have had a cartridge water filter system installed so think but don't know for sure it may have something to do with that. As i said sounds silly, but...

I have been having the same problem this past year. I woke up one morning and it all of a sudden kept beating like it's running. It beats so hard that my tummy moves. My tummy and heart was just throbbing. I am 14 and ppl have told me it's just adrenalin or hormones, but I don't think so
