I woke up on Sunday and my knee was so sore when I tried to bend it that I was favoring my right leg.
It seemed to go away by the end of the day. I've done a few days of exercising and yesterday during what was supposed to be a speedwork out I had to stop and stretch and bend. I finished the workout at three miles and not at the pace I wanted to achieve....and in some minor pain.
This morning I got up and the knee is very painful. The top of the knee in one spot is really sore to the touch. When I stretch out my leg, that area is very painful and when I bend it I hear a "crsh crsh" sound.
Has anyone experience with this and any suggestions? I'm not running today, but want to get back out there right away.

if, and i do mean if it's only runners knee ( i gather you did the quad tighten test holding above the knee cap?) then lots of leg extensions.
however the test i mentioned is far from reliable, it missed my knee issues completely.
i second jrjo about getting it checked professionally with some soft tissue imaging

I would be sure to ice the knee just to help reduce inflamation. Also check the lower quad for trigger points.

Thanks for the replies! Well, today it's sore but not like yesterday. I'm going to stay off of it for a while and then if it relapses I'll have to take John's advise.
Hyper: I did the test you mentioned. I had my assistant squeeze my leg while pushing on the knee cap and then I stretched my leg, and, oh yeah, there was a lot of pain. She said to me: Shelly, I can hear your knee make noise....you better have that looked at. I haven't increased miles or added any type of speedwork...and am not running outdoors except once a week. Other than a bit of an increases in pace, nothing really has changed to get the patella off track. Go figure.
Anyway, looks like back on Glucosamine Chondroitin for me for the long term this time.
