Will I immediatly feel better once I start Suboxen??

My son was on oxycontin and went to methadone. He is now detoxing on the methadone at 30 ml now and will eventually go to suboxone. I think his doc wants him lower on methadone first probably because the 24 withdrawl from meth. is worse than oxy's.

The first 24 hours on Suboxone is a little uncomfortable. After that, it's smooth sailing until the time comes when you have to get off the Suboxone. First off, the doctor wants him on a lower dose of methadone before switching to Suboxone because of the extremely long half-life of methadone. Secondly, you cannot go on Suboxone from 30 ml of methadone. It will not work and you will get very sick. You should be on 10mg or less, go at least 2-3 days with no methadone, then start Suboxone.  Otherwise, you will experience very severe withdrawal syndrome. You cannot use Suboxone when there are active opiates in your bloodstream. Suboxone is rarely used to get people off methadone because of how complicated and uncomfortable the transition can be.
