i started taking small amounts of my husbands oxycontion a couple of years ago, it made me feel good, lots of energy. Now I find myself addicted, could easily take 80 twice a day. I need to continue working while withdrawing, will Methadone help and if so how should I take the metadone. I have 10Mg methadone tablets.

Hi Pam: Unfortunately I know a LOT about Oxycontin and Oxycodone! I was addicted for several years. It took 7 months for me to kick the habit, with the help of a wonderful doctor. I don't like the sound of you "having 10mg methadone tablets!!!" When I was on methadone, I went to a clinic and drank methadone every morning infront of a pharmacist. Then after I proved myself, I could take a weeks worth home in a locked bag!!! Since you ARE and addict, I am surprised someone just gave you your own methadone pills!!!! Methadone is a good way of getting off the pills at the beginning. But I became frustrated, because I wanted the monkey off my back as soon as possible - so to speak. And some people I met at the clinic had been on it for years. I worked every day while coming off and methadone doesn't hinder that in the least. I hope you actually have a doctor or counsellor over seeing your "ACCOMPLISHMENT!!!" You CAN'T do it by yourself Pam! You need guidance. The reason why I say accomplishment, is because that is what it is. When you kick this HIGHLY addictive drug, who by the way the makers have been sued because they hid the true depth of addiction, then it is a wonderful achievment. It's a scary time, but you CAN do it! I was on 12 percocet and 4/5 percodane a DAY plus other drugs to help me sleep etc. Get some guidance with your pill intake Pam! BE CAREFUL! not to mix ANY pills with the methadone. Any good counsellor will tell you that. I wish you HEALTH and SOBRIETY!

I started using oxycotin 80s when i as 16, i took them or whatever i could get my hands on, i have lost everything in my life. My mom passed away from opiate addiction, i lost cars, house, family all my friends and now 12 years later i have a husband and a 2 yr old son, and found myself still not being able to stop. I got on methadone 10s and soon i figured out that hell they last alot long than ocs and they are cheaper. Now i am going through i would have to say the worst withdrawls ever, and i have had my share. Methadone is so hard to get out of your system and is just addictive in my eyes. My husbands aunt passed away last month from taking just 2 methadone, don't really know if she was allergic or what but to me please don't try them..Cold turkey sucks, but make your self get up and go to work. It won't last forever. But wining off pills doesn't work for me, i am doing this cold turkey this time and i have to for my family. I have support now and i am seeing a counselor so i think i can do it.. Just my advice......good luck to you...

What you just mentioned is CLASSIC of someone not being followed correctly. Methadone is supposed to replace the Opiate, THEN they are supposed to lower it and lower it. What I HAVE found out from many others is that it is easy to trick counsellors and doctors. AND there really isn't any database for it - unlike prescription (her in Canada anyway). If you think of Methadone like the Nicotine Patch - there really isn't any sense to it is there? The nicotine patch is STILL giving you the addictive qualities. just like methadone right? It takes an incredibbly strong and I might add - HeALTHY individual to go cold turkey. Your brain will do WHATEVER it takes to get the next high. I had opiate toxicity, and when I wasn't on the pills I would shake from head to toe and itch. You HAVE to get professional help. I prefer someone that has a way of thinking that is more natural and less medication based. Marijuana cookies helped me too with withdrawls. Anyone can have a reaction to anything! There is no way of knowing till its too late. You HAVE to be so careful when stopping. You can even die from withdrawls! So please talk to a specialist.
