Snooker
Snooker is different to pool and is played with a variety of coloured balls which have to be potted in a particular order. Players have to pot the red balls first and work their way up to black, each ball has a score associated and the player with the highest score at the end is the winner. Snooker is a game of skill requiring the players to judge the positions of the ball and anticipate the path they follow when hit to pot them, also using spin to set up the white ball ready for the next shot. It is a game that improves mental ability, skill and patience.

Table tennis
Table Tennis is a global sport that is often dominated in the Olympics by the Chinese and Japanese athletes. It is played like a version of tennis on a table with a small net and using padded bats while using a ping pong ball. Despite looking easy and as if there is not much movement involved it is a very fast paced game which involves using your brain as much as your body. It is great for all ages and abilities and can be played singularly or in doubles much like usual lawn tennis is. The scoring is slightly different from tennis but it is a fun packed game to enjoy in the winter!

Bowling
Ten pin bowling is a great past time for all the family to enjoy during winter. Many people get into a habit of staying in and watching tv when the weather is cold but a great family activity for all ages is bowling. This involves using a bowling ball of varying weights to knock down ten pins at the other end of an alley. The alleys are designed to have low friction to allow the bowling balls to travel at speed. Younger children can use assisted apparatus to help them push the ball into the alley while seasoned professionals may have their own balls. Also special footwear is worn to make the process easier.

Squash
Squash is a racket sport adapted from similar games such as tennis and raquet ball. Two players play against each other on an indoor court where the objective is to keep the ball in play using any of the surfaces of the surrounding court. The ball is only allowed to bounce once and is an extremely tough game involving lunging, diving, squatting and intense stamina and agility to move around the court at speed. As well as being physically tough, squash requires players to use their mental ability to place the ball into tough positions for their opposition by being aware of the other players movements.

Soccer
Indoor soccer is an awesome alternative to outdoor during the winter months. It is usually played with 5 players per team on an indoor flat surface with 2 goals which are much smaller than 11 a side soccer. The small space intensifies the game making it extremely energetic and fast paced burning fat and helping to improve reactions and skills in soccer. This does not have to be done in an organised way but simply getting a group of friends or players together to play will increase your social and team work skills. Five a side indoor soccer relies heavily on communication which is an essential life skill.

Darts
Darts is a game of skill which any age or ability can enjoy. It involves a score board with numbers from one to twenty, with a bullseye. Each number has a treble and double points area that players can hit to increase their score. Usually there is a line which players have to stand behind for a set distance to take each throw, each player has three darts per go. There are many different games to play on a darts board, traditionally the pros play 501 or 301 where players score to be the first to get to 0, but the last shot must hit a double. E.g if twenty was left they must hit double ten.
