I had this. I had an ovarian cyst. I had awful pain for years. The cyst kept growing. I finally had surgery and no more pain for 1+ year. They also found endometriosis which they took out. The majority of pain was from my cyst, though. MD'S are idiots. Even a small cyst can cause pain in many women.
Get the cyst removed and you will feel better!

I stumbled upon this site when researching rapid weight gain; however, I've experienced horrific pains in my stomach and lower abdomen for the past 20 years and thought I might try to help someone with my experiences. My stomach pains began when I was 9 yrs old and at 29, I still get them... although I was always told I would "grow out of it." I used to ( about 3 yrs ago) have pains that doubled me over, in tears for 24+ hrs at a time with no relief... and other times it would only last a few hours. I've had upper and lower GI's (don't think these are done much anymore), NUMEROUS upper and lower endoscopies (microscope ran thru colon and upper stomach region), ultra sounds, etc and they found nothing. I've tried numerous medication and have been to MANY different doctors...including one that was leading in this area of research at the time that I waited 1.5 years to get into (I was TOTALLY desperate). Anyway, I was finally prescribed a prescription medication called HyoMax (Generic: HYOSCYAMINE) and it has been MY MIRICLE DRUG!!!! I've been on it for 3 years with much anticipated success. For the rare occasions that I do have an "episode," I take Levsin-SL (it's sublingual: dissolves under the tongue for faster acting) and it helps A LOT and speeds up the time I'm in pain. I know how frustrating this can be... I've been ran thru the gamut only to get a diagnosis of IBS, to watch what I eat, and told to exercise (which I did to no avail). Obviously you need to talk to your doctor to see if this drug would be right for you... but I've told a few people with similar issues who have also had extraordinary success. I probably get 3 "episodes" a year now (which are usually linked directly to extreme stress- dissertation, etc.)... when I used to have them 3+ times/wk. NO more pain (or very little), I'm functioning normally now, and am a much happier person (pain really can mess with you.) Hope this is helpful. If anyone has any questions please feel free to respond and I will get back with you. I sympathize with you all and wish you all the best in your medical adventures. God Bless!
P.S. I tried CharcoCaps too (as mentioned by another guest), but it was only "a little" helpful for me and was a game of how quickly I caught the cramping. If it wasn't immediately, it didn't help at all. But, to each their own.

I have all of the same symptons and it appears the docs don't really know what is causing this , it would be interesting to find out out where everyone lives, could it be environmental factors I'm at a loss really I'm in Connecticut and have several colleauges with the same symptons we have all had a battery of tests and pills prescribed to no avail. I have gone from 36B cup to 38DD and look like I'm 8 months pregnant I have tried everything , diet , exercise set meal times, no food at all, 7 hours sleep or less sleep, exercise over the counter pms meds, vitamins and supplements, laxatives, diuretics nothing works I will try the celiac test but I don't think its the problem there just seems to be too many women with the same symptons and we are all getting the same feedback but no relief or cure.

I also get trapped gas pains in my stomach. I feel like I want to just die and sometimes I feel like vomiting. I can't even stand up straight. I don't mean to be graphic, but you want to release the gas some how but can't. Even touching your lower stomach is very painful. You can even feel the gas moving around. Sometimes it's on my left side and some months it's on my right. My stomach is so large. I saw my GYN and she told me that she couldn't find anything wrong. By reading some of the stories on this site, I think it's time to find a better Doctor.
It always feels like my tubes are about to erupt. I would say I get it 6 times out of 12 periods a year. I always get it on the first to second day of my period. I never bleed very heavy like somthing is blocking my passage. But when I don't get the pains I'm flowing like the red sea.
I find that when ever I eat very gassy foods like Broccoli, pasta, eggs, cheese, Chinese food, oinons and the list goes on. This will make the pains much worst. I TRY to avoid them when I feel my period coming on. But sometimes I just can't help it. But I always STAY AWAY FROM ANY KIND OF SODA AND SODA LIKE DRINKS. The gas gets trapped in my body and have no place to go. If you DON'T like sugar in your drinks like I do, I find things like Crystal Light in water is good or any kind of Diet Ice tea, or a light in sugar drink works good too. I would even stay away from milk if I can. I'm sure that this is a real medical problem. But until I find a good GYN doctor that knows what they're doing. I'll staying away from all highly gassy foods during the beginning of my period. Also, I find that lying down a lot also makes the problem worst and skipping meals. I have a Yogart for breakfast. even though it's still a dairy product I just eat it slowly and in small spoon amounts with a piece of butter toast and for lunch a Peanut butter and Jelly sandwich. Dinner, brown rice and chicken or fish and a small amount of corn. It may not work all the time but the less gas you add to your body during the first few days of your period the better.
I hope this will help someone!

im not sure what it is..im young and recently found out my blood pressure is REALLY high..it runs in my family and my blood test came out good so my kidneys are fine. that was a little over two months ago. with my blood pressure so high im not allowed to have any birth control methods besides condoms and one broke the first week of sep. i got my period last month so i figured i didnt get pregnant. now i noticed my stomach is getting bigger and bigger by the day. even if i dont eat a lot its rock hard all the time and i cant suck it in anymore AT ALL! i get sharp pains all over and now its starting in my mid and lower back mainly on the left side. i also have been urinating a lot. it doesnt burn or hurt i just have to go all the time it feels like.im only 16 and have been living with my boyfriend and his family for over 2 yrs. i dont talk to my father, who has custody of me, very often. last time the doc insisted i need to be sent to a specialist over my blood pressure he refused..i dont want to bother him about going to the doctor unless i really have to, but the only explanation iv heard is being pregnant although i really dont think i am. if any1 can help me out it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Similar problem myself, and my mother had it too.. What I find most helpful is just working out what the body wants. It takes forever but it's worth it. In a lot of cases it's not any one thing, usually hormone imbalance is part of the problem, as well as lack of good flora in the intestines. Also the thyroid might not be functioning properly. What I find has been really beneficial is simply talking to an experienced and qualified naturopath. Talking about eating habits, symptoms.. then he put me on strong probiotics (yoghurt is not strong enough to have much of an effect, despite what advertising companies will have you believe) which alone have helped relieve bloating over time, and also on something that reduces inflammation through digestive enzymes. All healthy and natural, no harmful side effects and such treatment allows your body to get itself sorted out. We pump ourselves full of medical drugs (pain killers and hay fever or asthma medicine included) on a daily basis and few of us know what it's really doing to us. It's always good to give your body a pharmaceutical detox and let it work itself out.
Another thing that I have personally found very helpful is a natural complete worming. How often do we remember to worm ourselves these days? Yet we are supposed to complete a worming fairly regularly, at least a few times a year. I'm nearly finished my first one in years now, a month long one that naturally destroys gastrointestinal worms and improves the environment for good bacteria simultaneously. You wouldn't believe the improvement. Still a way to go, working on the thyroid now, but the bloating has decreased, no more pain and I have noted a general improvement in health and energy levels.
Hope this has been helpful!

Hi Everyone,
My daughter had rapid weight gain around her stomach in July 2009. She was 45 kgs and she put on 15 kgs more. Later on, she put on more weight when her arms, lega, ankles and knees became swollen. I was reading all of these blogs about unfortunate people with similar symptoms and unable to get the doctors to solve the problem. I am not sure that everyone on this blog is the same because some appear to have bloating that comes and goes. Her rapid weight gain has now pushed her over 75 kgs in 6 months.
I finally came across one blog which said "this might be a rare disease which is usually misdiagnosed called Dercum's Disease. You will find out a lot by just Googling it. It can be extremely painful and can have other things like fatty tumours that can grow quite large (do you have any lumps developing)? insomnia, regular high temperatures, swelling of arms and legs (maybe bottom).
There is a Dr Herbst in San Diego who has done most research into this disease and she has a webside with some suggestions what to do but there is no instant cure. In fact it can get progressively worse and more painful. Generally, strong pain relief doesn't help much. The more radical exercise someone does, it can make it worse. Dr Herbst suggests going off dairy including milk and red meat.
Maybe get some enzyme blockers 9see the article).
If these symptoms match up with yours, I am very sorry. There is a blog which is useful that is run by people suffering from Dercum's Disease. I haven't offered you a cure but I was very thankful to the person who at least put the name Dercum disease on another blog. It has opened my eyes to the associated problems that come with this disease. Another blog I looked at was people who had their gall bladder out (sometimes one or two years before and they claimed that they looked 8 months pregnant.
I can be contacted Good luck. Rob

I found this information on the charcol tablets. I'm going to try this.
Medicinal Uses: Holistic
Dime-sized charcoal tablets have long been used holistically to treat stomach ailments. These tablets contain no chemicals and deliver about 250 milligrams of charcoal in each tablet. Net Doctor.co.uk says that charcoal tablets can relieve flatulence, gassy bloating, heartburn and upset stomachs. They do this by attracting excess gas in the stomach and intestines. The gas binds to the surface of the charcoal and the tablet is digested.
Medicinal Uses: Mainstream
According to charcoal tablets can also be used to treat drug overdoses and poisonings. The charcoal absorbs chemicals and toxins the same way it does excess gas. In this case, the tablets work best if they are taken 30 to 60 minutes after a poisoning, and always under medical supervision. Since the dose of charcoal for poisonings is much larger than that of a supplement, it is best to let a certified medical practitioner administer the charcoal.
Cautionary Advice
There are no known side-effects to taking charcoal, however Net Doctor.co.uk says no on under 12 should take charcoal. According to Charcoal Guide.com, charcoal can absorb medications, so speak to a doctor before taking the supplement. Also, dairy products block charcoal tablets from absorbing gases and toxins, so avoid eating dairy products two hours before and after ingesting charcoal. Charcoal Guide.com suggests drinking a lot of water with the tablets to aid absorption and digestion. Store tablets in a cool, dry place and throw them away when they expire.

Has anyone been tested for Celiac Disease? I know a couple people mentioned it but I don't think anyone has been tested. I have the weight gain that won't stop as well plus I haven't had a period in 6 months. I am starting the Gluten-free lifestyle which is the treatment for Celiac Disease. I am praying that is it because I can't take much for weight gain, it is the most depressing thing I have been through. I am engaged and am putting off planning a wedding because I refuse to being documented like this. :-( Feel better everyone.

Guest 3/10/10: Well what is going on with your stomach and you need to put more symptoms because I'm not sure what that sounds like. That sounds like it could be a lot of things...

So it sounds like alot of you need to be tested for Celiac Disease - you MUST eat gluten in order for the test to be accurate. I quit smoking, moved across country and changed jobs all in a three months period. My symptoms we as follows: irritability, weight gain (even with going to the gym four days a week), fatigue, terrible joint pain, skin rashes and sensitivities, neuropathy (tingling hands and feet), dry itchy skin, problems breathing.
I was rushed to the ER with what I thought was a heart attack, but turned out to be an asthma attack instead (thank goodness). After having been through all of the specialists: rheumatologist, endocrinologist, neurologist, gastroentrologist - all took blood to rule out other diseases. I was worried it might be MS. Celiac Disease is an autoimmune disease that mimics alot of other autoimmune diseases. I also thought I might have Lupus - with the severe joint pain I was experiencing. In finding out this information - I also found out that I am allergic to soy - so my diet is rather restrictive. No wheat, gluten, soy. This means reading EVERY LABEL. Nothing that has the following: wheat, oats, gluten, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, caramel color, dressings, marianades, maltodextrin, malt. Anything that is processed, I cannot eat. It must be organic, fresh products.
Unfortunately when you are first diagnosed (and continually) especially around holidays or special occassions, we tend to focus more on what we cannnot eat as opposed to what we can still eat. I can have fresh meat, fish, veggies - plain with salt and pepper and little of oil and red wine vinegar (cannot have balsamic). No blue cheese, as it is usually molded on BREAD, which I cannot ingest. When eating out I cannot have vegetables that are steamed in the pasta water - you have to ask your SERVER ALOT OF QUESTIONS. NO BREAD of any kind can touch my plate. They cannot use the same utensil to serve my plate as someone who has had gluten/bread. No so much for soy. I have been coping with this for two years now and am finally get in with a nutrionist to help me sort it out. It is VERY OVERWHELMING; I learn as I go. Read, read, read, read, read about it. It is becoming more common and congress just passed that by July of 2010 all restaurants will need to disclose all items that have gluten. This is very helpful, as sometimes it is hidden.
You even have to change your beauty products and vitamins. Gluten is what holds things together, it is a cheap filler. You have to call the labs that create the pills usually, as the pharmacists are not well versed in knowing this. I am working locally to change that, as it is an important part. We need pills to help other sysmptoms or such and we cannot ingest gluten. The pharmacist should know what is and isnt. Also ask your doctor prescribing it, they usually dont know, because unless they are specialists in the area - they dont know alot about the disease. It is good, once you are diagnosed to learn and then teach those around you. Create awareness.
I hope this has been helpful.
As for the weight gain, I still have that issue and continue to work with my gastroenterologist on this issue. I do have IBS and a hernia. All diet restrictive. You can make almost anything as you do with gluten; it just has to be made, alot of it is NOT ready made - not quick and convenient. you have to plan ahead. I bring my own food to any event / party at someone elses home as I never know if there is contaminiation. I keep a kosher kitchen so to speak. I have separate utensils, dishes and storage containers than my husband and any guests that I may cook for. This hasnt changed how I entertain - my friends all know and actually are now eating a healthier way. Most people dont want to eat it because it is different, that is before they even try things. But most things dont taste different - although the texture is different.
Good luck everyone.
