Help! I have had sever stomach pains, sever bloating and a weight gain of 15lbs in a month. I have Addison's disease which affects your adrenal glands. I haven't been able to make consistent bowel movements for over 2 years, I have been to every doctor under the sun, including specialists. Nobody can figure it out and over the past 6 months it has gotten even worse. I have to take pain meds just to sleep at night and feel so uncomfortable I dont like to go anywhere. Another symptom is sharp pains in my kidneys and have had many kidney, bladder and UTI's in the past. If anyone can relate to this and can give me any suggestions on what to do it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Frustrated Woman

hi i myself have some of the symptoms being described here, however i have not had my periods for nearing 2mths now. i've taken pregnancy test (took one 2day) and they both state negative, my stomach is swollen (even though i work out), and the pain varies, sometimes the pain is mild and other times it hurts alot. I have to wait 2mths to get an ultra sound done.so any advice here would be useful.

I have endometriosis and I just recently have been experiencing bloating and pain that has not been in the time frame of my period.
I had an ultrasound and my left ovary is a bit enlarged. I already knew this as I had one 6 months ago.
The symptoms include: Bloating, pain in my lower abdomen, sharp pains in the area across my bellybutton, gas, nervous stomach, and excess amounts of energy.
I believe that I have endometrial adhesions in my lower abdomen that are causing the pain. I have had surgery before to remove some endo in my left ovary and upon surgery it was discovered that the endo was on my bladder and uterus as well. Those were not removed. 3 yrs. later after the surgery and this is what is going on:
the constant bloating has lasted about 3 weeks and the nervous stomach for about 1 week.
I am worried I will have to have another surgery.

Another thing I have tried are Gas-X pills and they don't remove the gas or bloating.
I have tried Tagamet for the nervous stomach and it is still there, no change.
I do not eat wheat, very little sugar, and most everything organic. try and drink a liter or more of water a day.
I also exercise 4-5 days a week.
This really stinks, the pain kind of came out of the blue and will not dissipate.
Anyone have any ?????? feel free to ask
Anyone have any answers please feel free to respond:)

Right, so I followed the same path as some others, Googled my symptoms and wound up here ;-) Some background details: recovering anorexic (as in, still underweight but has been consistently dithering around with gaining it back gradually over the past 8 years, and has recently made big steps, if you'll pardon the pun.) I am a fit, strong lass of 25, who likes to exercise vigourously and does so frequently, but eats in the region of 3,000 calories to compensate for this. Recently, as mentioned, I went through a month of eating more to try and gain some more muscle, and hopefully a bit more head-clearance, as OCD is still a factor. I'm no longer life-threatening anorexic, not even close, but am still "technically" underweight for my height/age; but then, so's half my family.

Now, the real crux of this waffle is this: about three weeks ago, my menstruation came back for the first time since this time last year. Before then, it's been on/off since age 16, with sometimes years in between periods. They've always been as they were before this illness started - 5 days, heaviest at the beginning, etc. But this latest one was about 7 days, VERY heavy at the beginning and that only really tapered off on the 3rd day, with a fair bit of abdominal aches at the outset (normal, though.) I saw my weight go up, OK, that's expected, it'll go back down again ... only, it hasn't. It went down a little bit when the period ended, but the following week had clambered up by almost a kilo, and from then on each week has been climbing steadily by about 1lb, until now here I am, over a kilo beyond what my "target weight" was and rather upset about it, as you can tell. Because this is one of my worst nightmares - I do the business, get to where docs (and me) are more comfortable, hopefully stop to maintain - but don't.

Along with all this, and referring back properly to the OP, I've had INTENSE abdominal bloating; gas; constipation; nausea; cramps after eating (w/ the bloating) to the point where it's agony to stand upright, so I have to lean forwards; loss of appetite, feelings of over-fullness even after small amounts to eat (which is normal, as I eat little but very often to keep the energy up - and I'm going through that greedy-pig stage where I can't seem to have enough in my mouth, typical part of recovery, but still keeping in my calorie-boundaries.) I've tried water retention tablets and even laxatives (sparingly, because I'm very leery of bringing on another anorexic-habit - addictive personality.) So far, only the latter is working to relieve the pressure somewhat, but it's getting worse, and always in the evening. My partner was ready to drive me to A&E last night because I couldn't stand from the pain after eating my regular evening snack.

What I'm trying to say is - my gut's used to taking in large quantities of food, it has been for some years now - I just spent a long time burning it all off with over-exercise, but have calmed things now to proceed with (consistent) weight gain/recovery. BUT - I stopped that weight-gain method some weeks ago, and have now surpassed my goal. It's terrifying, and I'm fighting a very loud, angry voice inside me that's saying "told you so" and is trying to get me to dip back into anorexic habits to lose the ground I'd gained. My stomach/abdomen look enormous, especially in comparison to the still twig-like arms, legs and bony shoulders/back. Basically, I look like I've got worms. I can usually tell, from past experience in hospital, when my weight's actually gone up in terms of body mass, because my boobs get bigger, face rounder, etc. Now, I still look much the same as before, except for this VERY rounded, sticking-out tummy. My gym training's gone up the spout because of the nausea/bloatedness, leading to even greater anxiety. And I can't stop passing gas!

I went to a doctor last week, who immediately diagnosed IBS (after prodding me for about a minute.) I'm willing to go along with this, as it could possibly be fructose malabsorbtion (I eat a shed-load of apples, as not really into my other fruits/veg - weird for a vegetarian, I know.) I've also looked up ovarian cysts, because - having read some posts on this site - the symptoms sound rather similar to what I've got, and I know that my older sister gets them; she suffers endometriosis. So that's a possible link, too.

Anyways, kudos to you if you've made it this far. And Hello to everyone, by the way. Any help or advice, please, would be marvelous.

I'm not sure if this is the same, but I have read an article about weight gain here: p This article mentions that female hormones are responsible for weight gain during puberty, pregnancy and menopause... that is practically all the stages of a woman's life... have you considered having your hormone levels checked??

I also googled this topic due to the amount of bloating and weight gain that is going on with my body. It started about two weeks ago, getting huge amounts of bloating and gaining 8 pounds in two weeks, all throughout my abdomen. It all started after taking the generic prescription for Prilosec, however, even after getting off of it, the pain and bloating is still happening. I just started my period a couple days ago, but I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the bloating and pain, as I have never had that much bloating with my period and I am 32 years old. My neighbor suggested alka-seltzer for the bloating, which I was skeptical of, but it did help...for a few days. I went to an herbal store who suggested probiotics, which I have been taking for a few days. I wish someone would have posted on here what their doctors said..... I do not plan on going to a doctor unless it gets more severe or I gain more weight.

I could actually cry with excitement that I stumbled upon this site. I can actually take a deep breath and realize theres a good chance i'm not dying. I have all the same symptoms as most of you, I thought for sure I had some form of cancer because all of these symptoms were too much for me to handle. I have made appointments and started charchol pills. You all have eased my mind so much, thank you!!!! :-)

I have the same symptoms and i had lyme disease and i think i have bartonella, another bacteria that comes with lymes but doesnt get treated. rapid weight gain with an abdomen that looks like your 7 mos pregnant, ( my gyn was convinced i was pregnant and 2 neg tests later decided to send me to another doctor) i was thin and healthy 5 mos ago, the weight gain started rapidly and hasnt stopped, i remembered 6 years ago having same symptoms ( including lower back spasms when i walk) high blood pressure which went away after treatment i also had h.pylori as i do this time as well. I researched an article that related h.pylori to lymes since the tick can contain many different bacteria and i never knew i was even bitten! it depends on when your bit is located. when I listed my symptoms, weight- bloating, another of the lyme bacteria was bartonell and you can view photo's that show (at least for me it did, it could have been my abdomen) and will go back on iv rocephin this week, and hopefully, like 6 years ago, i lost 30 pounds right after i completed the antibiotics within the first month.

I have been having these symptoms for 2 years now. I began with abdominal pain, bloating and gained 30lbs in less than a month that I cannot get rid of. I have tried everything! I had a hysterectomy over 10 years ago and just had a physical and my ovaries are unremarkable. When I try to bend over, my abdomen feels like someone has secured a basketball there and it takes my breath away. I will try the charcoal but really do not know how it can make a difference with the weight gain. I am going to continue to read on but your symptoms are the most closely related to what I feel.

I have had the rapid weight gain (30 lbs in a month) that began 2 years ago. Along with it, bloating and constipation with abdominal pain. I had a hysterectomy over 10 years ago and recently had a physical and my ovaries are unremarkable. I am miserable. I cannot lose the weight no matter what I do. I feel like someone has strapped a basketball to my abdomen and when I try to bend over, it takes my breath away. I too am tired of being told that I am just getting old. Old does not come on overnight!

Well I got the Charcoal tabs and took 2 doses yesterday, had horrific abdominal pain and gas that kept me up most of the night. This morning, it is so much better and I am less bloated. I took another dose today and so far so good. The pressure and hardness in my abdomen is so much less.

I have been looking for answers to the 40 pounds I have put on in the last year. I have medical issues that came to the fore front in July of 2009. I know the doctors say that the weight is because of my smoking cessation but my abdoman has gotten so large it's embarishing I hate going out in public. I know that it's not my diet. They discovered that the oxygen in my blood is vedry loc. I have severe emphyazema in both lungs, phase 1 in dystolic heart failure and sleep aphinia. I am 65 years old and I can hear everyone saying that it is because I stopped smoking and my age.

I know there is more to that. I went on a c-pap and was told if i didn't change my diet at all i would lose 3 pounds a month but I am beginning to think that won't happen.
