I am a 26 year old guy and i have been dealing with this issue for about 2 years so far. Ill preface this by saying i did drink daily for a couple years but not large amounts, maybe 2-3 beers a night but i have only drank a handful of times since this issue began. I dont know if my symptoms have anything to do with my past alcohol use. It started one morning at work when all of the sudden i felt a slight pain in my right mid abdomen. I thought it was a cramp so i waited it out and after a while it went away. The pain has been back every day since with increasing severity which has reached a plateau and is the same every single day. I would say it gets to a 9 on the pain scale at times, i cant walk or do much of anything when its really hurting. The pain goes across my abdomen now and into my back when its at its worst. The first day it severely hurt i also felt sick to my stomach and ended up vomiting and going home from work. I spent the evening miserable and in pain in bed and ended up going to the ER. They gave me a blood test and a urine test. The blood test i assume was normal but the doc said there was blood in my urine. He diagnosed me with kidney stones, gave me pain meds, and told me to see a urologist as soon as possible . I saw a urologist and had a CT scan done but there were no stones, although he said there was a very slight narrowing of my ureter. He said this wouldnt cause my symptoms but decided to do a cystoscopy and place a stent in my ureter anyway, which was not a pleasant experience to say the least. The cystoscopy also showed no signs of stones. The pain came back immediately and nothing was solved by seeing the urologist. I noticed my urine has rarely been clear ever since this pain first started and there has been blood in my urine every time i have been to an ER. I kept struggling through the pain for a few more months before i went to see my general physician. He referred me to a gastroenterologist. I had a endoscopy, 2 more CT scans (one zoomed in on my pancreas), and a colonoscopy. He said everything looked normal but gave me pain meds and said to go back to see a urologist at the Cleveland Clinic (i live in a suburb of Cleveland). At this point i was very frustrated with doctors and still in severe pain daily but i went to the urologist anyway. He looked at my scan results and said there was nothing he could see that would be causing me any pain at all and wouldnt even refill my pain meds. I left that appointment very bitter. It is now about 8 months later and im still livimg with this on a daily basis. I still work full time and have had to miss severa l days because of this. I would do anything to stop this. Anything. I have a 3 year old daughter to keep up with when im at home also and i feel as if i am handicapped with pain and cant play with her nearly as much as i used to. It makes me depressed. Anyone have these problems? The pain usually subsides when i am reclined in a chair, and is worst when my stomach is empty.
