Estrogen balance is essential for achieving and maintaining fat loss. In men and premenopausal women, too much estrogen — a condition called estrogen dominance — causes toxic fat gain, water retention, bloating, and a host of other health and wellness issues. In women, with stress and age there is a natural decline in testosterone and progesterone levels, leaving a relative excess of estrogen.

This is depressing!  I had an ablation in Oct 2011.  I have now gained 5 lbs and haven't changed my eating habits.  I'm 51 and have always exercised regularly and still cannot get the weight off.  Most of the weight is in my stomach......I have never had a poochy tummy until now.  I'm 5'7" and now weigh 153 and seem to be stuck there!  After reading all of the posts, I feel better knowing that I'm not the only one going through this, but still feel awful.  I'm to the point that I don't want my husband to see me without clothes....I've never been like that!

Hi--I saw your post, regarding the ablation. What is the result after one year. Have you gained weight? Are you happy with the procedure?

Hi my name is Tracy and I had the balloon ablation done in May and in the past few months I have gained right at 20 pounds and I haven't changed anything so I was just wondering if it is caused from the ablation and my ankles and fingers swells up like I have fluid built up. So no u r not alone. But I would really like to know if it is caused from the ablation and if there is anything I can do about the weight gain. Thanks!

I  had my ablation in 2011. I've never had problems with weight until this procedure. I was 135lbs and in 6 months I've gained 20lbs. I can't seem to get it off no matter what I do. Any suggestions on how to get this under control. Makes me scared...

HI! I am 41 years old and since having the NovaSure Ablation in September 2012 I have gained considerable weight. I pacifically asked my doctor was this a possible side effect and he said no. I asked this question primarily because years ago when I was on Depo Provera, I gained quite a bit of weight and nothing worked for me to lose the weight, so I stopped taking the shot and about 6 months to a year later I was back to my normal weight. The procedure itself, the GYN staff stated to me the 3 women they performed the procedure on prior to me experienced no pain or cramping but I would not be able to say the same. I experienced really bad cramping after the NovaSure Ablation procedure and I did need to take the prescribed pain medication to ease the cramping which lasted for up to 1 day, after reading some reviews I take it I was fortunate. Since then I still experience some cramping and other menstrual side effects like nausea, headaches during my menstrual cycle but I only spot for a couple of days then it's gone. I thought the cramps would subside much more so than they have but they are bearable. Personally for me the only negative I have at this time regarding the ablation is the weight gain. With this being a permanent procedure I'm very concerned if I will be able to lose the weight in fear of what I experienced with the Depo Provera.

I had my ablation Dec. 14, 2011 and to date i have gained weight as well. Never in my life have I had a weight problem, until I had this done. I am usually 125 or less in my normal weight and to date i am now around 140 pounds or so. I can't believe it, its all in my stomach too. I am really upset as no one told me this would be a side effect. Anyone know anything as to why this happens after the ablation?

My Ablation was in 2008.  I am happy that I have not had ANY horrible periods like I had prior; however, I have gained about 30 pounds since then. I feel that the Novasure ablation is the primary cause/ and change of hormone imbalance---apparently?!

I am really glad I am not the only one having these problems. I had a tubal done in 2007 after my 4th child, I was 26 at the time. After the tubal I had horrible periods heavy, twice a month, 7-9 days each. Went to my Gyn. she told me about the ablation procedure. I didn't make a decision on it right away, but I was seriously miserable having a period that bad so I had the ablation done in Nov. 2010 at 29 years old. I quit having a period after the procedure was done. Within 3 months I had gained almost 20 lbs. I'm 5'3 and normal weight for me was 135. At my heaviest 145 never more. Today I am 185 lbs. and miserable like never before. I had thyroid tests done. Diets exercise you name it I have tried it. The most I have lost is 4 lbs. and I gain it back quick. I have a small leaky bladder issue since this. Hormones all over the place and no sex drive anymore. I'm 31 years old and feel like I'm 60. Wish I had never had this done.

I had the endometrial ablation procedure in June 2012 and have gained 20lbs.  I have always been thin and this is very upsetting.  I am an avid runner and have recently started Weight Watchers to try and lose this weight but I just continue to put on weight.  It's in my thighs and tummy which is gross.  I haven't seen any literature talking about this as a side effect but have read so many stories from other women about this same problem.  Also, I'm one of the "lucky" ones that this procedure didn't work and now it's either arterial embolization or hysterectomy...I'm only 39...Bummer!

My Birthday present was to have the ablation done, it actually took place on my bday. We have 5 kids and I had a tubal back in Nov 2002. Not only were my periods horrible  but sex was sooo painful. I don't regret the surgery but the weight gain is bull. I haven't been eating red meat, cut out sugar and never drink soda. I go to zumba 4-5 days a week and have gained 9lbs in three months :(

I think it happens from this................... when you have periods your body gets rid of chemicals and other things that get in your body from foods, etc. I know when I had my period I would be bloated and fat feeling but after it was over I would lose a couple of pounds. Well since I don't have periods anymore I stay so bloated and gained weight but it feels like its fluids. So Im thinking that since we don't have periods now our body is retaining what would of emptied out in our mentrual flow. Does that make any since?............. That is what I gather from this and the way my body done before and after the ablation. I had mine on Dec 14, 2013. I've gained 25 lbs.
