Yep. 15 pounds since my ablation the end of 2011. I asked about weight gain and was told that wasn't a side effect. I haven't changed my eating habits, in fact I went to a trainer and was working out harder than ever but still continue to gain weight. It would never have had this done if I knew I could gain so much weight. Its pretty depressing to weigh more than when I was 9 months pregnant.

OMG!!! i hate this wieght gain. obsessive to say the least with my exercize and wieght all my life!! i have had to buy from a size 7 to a size 11-12 and they are getting tight!! all in 2 months. seriously depressed. i dont even want to function other than starve and exercize and its not helping. gee at 48 i know perimenopause depression can kick in but this procedure insures it!!! i would of gladly dealt with the bleeding for 7 days than this. aching and pain also all the time and still bleeding a little. the dr. said its not the surgery!!! it is for sure. i just want to choke her. you would think a woman would understand! i have never gained wieght except when i was pregnant 22 years ago! im a trainer and exercize 6 hours a day and give nutrisionist advise! what a big joke this surgey is. the drs. know if they tell you wieght gain noone will do it and that loses money for them!!!

I had Nova sure a week ago and have gloating. But I'm pretty sure the weight gain everyone is speaking of is because of an increase in estrogen in our bodies. I hope the Dr will tell me how to balance out or decrease the estrogen.

I also had an ablation in 2010 and have gained at least 20 lbs. And can't get it off..I don't have periods anymore, but have not weighed this much in 14 years. I workout and ride a bike at least 4 to 5 times a week and don't eat any different then I did before. I read in a post one woman had our problems as well and found out that her cervix had scarred closed and somehow that made her gain a lot of weight, and caused her uterus to enlarge. She ended up getting a hysterectomy and lost all the weight she had gained. I don't know but I am so unhappy with the weight gain I wish I would not have had it done.

I was just told two days ago I am in menopause!! But my body started playing tricks on me in 02.2012. I knew there was something different about me, hot flashes, yelling at my boyfriend one minute and crying the next. Sometimes crying for no reason at all. Headaches into migraines, somethings verdigo, the nausia feeling, depressed, not leaving the house.  I was exhausted all the time and OMG the weight gain, so much, so fast. But than I did all the test's and things looked normal. And than the dreaded monthly cycles. I could set my watch to them. But than heavier and longer. The last straw for me was when I had a heavy cyle for "Two Months" straight. Stoped for 6 days only before I started again. I didn't care how bad I was bleeding I got to see my OB Gyn. I had made the decision to do the Thermal Ablasion. It was my choice. It works for some people and others it does not. I had gained weight prior to doing the procedure and maybe 10lbs after.  Total weight gain about 35lbs. I think some of the weight gain from the procedure is from your body changing and from the procedure.  Even thou it didn't work for me for the bleeding. "ALL" my other symptoms are gone. Except the weight..LOL. I was depressed, scared not being able to have kids, the migraines, the mood swings.. all of it is gone.  That is worth a million bucks to me, my boyfriend still here by my side thru it all and say's you do what you need to do. Pills, ablations, hysteroctomy. What is important to him, that he knows I tried to get better, I work out.. but can't seem to lose the weight. But he still thinks I'm funny, beautiful, kind. my personality. He does not care about the weight gain, he is so happy I have not allowed it to change who I am. Now I may need a hysteroctomy, waiting for my Biopsy results which may cause more weight gain. I believe all this is only temporary with my body weight, but in the mean time I have another reason to be happy for the other things in my life, and have the joy to start planning my wedding. This procedure helped me, in its own way. But I have learned to accept my decision's and gain from them or learn from them. No regrets

Same here!  I had the thermal ablation on October 4th and over the past month I have gained 9 pounds.  My food habits have not changed but I have no energy.  I feel like I've been PMSing since the surgery.  I don't know what to do!

After reading these articles before I had the procdedure I was concerned much so. I have been on a 1200 calorie plan and excercise at least 3 times a week and I have lost 27 lbs. I am 52. I feel that gaining the weight is easy to do more now than ever, but I can also lose it if I eat healthy portions and exercise as well.

I had my ablation 2 years ago and was just diagnosed with low thyroid this week. I have gained 20 lbs since the procedure. I for sure would not have chosen to have this done if I had known this would be the result. Not only is it the weight gain but my hair is falling out and I am exhausted!!!! I will have to take the medication to treat this new condition my life:[ My blood work prior to this was near perfect, I am 50 years old and had always been able to keep my weight to 130, since the procedure I have tracked my food daily keeping my calorie intake to 1300, did a hour of Pilates and 4 miles on the tread mill, yet I gained this weight, the last 2 lbs in 10 days. I am PISSED and looking for helpful information that maybe could reverse this possibly through diet?

Did you ever have your thyroid checked?

In theory if this is indeed the case, this makes total sense! Has anyone tried regular Epsom salt baths to try and release the build up of excess toxins the body needs to release?

I am so glad I stumble over this. I have my a blasian in 2011 and I have gained 105 pounds all in my stomach and in my thighs I have been miserable and I just lost 35 pounds but I retain so much fluid that it's ridiculous I thought it was just me but I haven't eaten any different since before I had the oblation.

I spoke to my doctor about this before the ablation.  She said that the procedure shouldn't cause me to gain weight.  I have gained nearly 10 lbs since December 17.  I work out and eat the same as before and the weight keeps piling on.  I had a flat stomach and it keeps getting bigger.  No tumors or anything wrong, just gaining weight.  I worked really hard to get the weight off before my ablation and now it is piling on so fast.  It is very depressing and makes me feel horrible about myself.  I got rid of all of my larger clothes, so my new stuff is so tight I have only a few things to wear.  I am not sure the proedure was worth the weight gain.  I'll continue to do Insanity and see if it comes back off, but every time I check, I have gained another pound.  So darn frustrating.

This prodedure is not worth it!! I have gained 15 lbs. and no matter how hard I work out and how healthy I eat, it will not come off! I have never had this problem before in my life! It is all in the belly and thighs! Also, after 2 years have developed painful pelvic pain that is sometimes unbearable. There should be something done for all of us ladies that have had pain and heartache.

Hi, not sure you will see this because your post is over a year old, but maybe it will help someone out there dealing with this same issue. No I'll bet the weight gain is from the ablation as well. I had the ablation done about 4 years ago and I am still gaining weight. My norm is around 165, I am now 200lbs and counting. I have done every exercise including jogging 5 days a week and going on a calorie restricted diet, taking diuretics, and crying. Guess what!...nothing works. I am thinking of going the plastic surgery route if nothing works out soon. At my wits end and my doc keeps pooing-pooing the idea that it is from the ablation even though I have shown her many examples from the internet. Blessings to all that have this issue as well.
