hi I had my hemorrhoidectomy 9th Dec 2017, wot a awful start of new year ... it's going to be 6 weeks in 2 days post surgery... I still have some swelling upper left side of my anus.. l need to see my doc in coming week.. doc said I will be healed by 8th week... not sure if it's true ...
although I am not in pain generally.. but my discomfort is similar to have an external hemorrhoid which I dunnu is just swelling related to wound...
I am sad and low.. coz my life is revolving around bowel movements.. although not painful bms but the anticipation of getting to poop is ruining my day to day life.
dunnu when will all this end... crazy hemorrhoids ... and the surgery is even more crazy ..... daily struggle..
hope u feel well soon ... we had our surgery almost the same time period .. hope we recover asap.

Had surgery on Tuesday. Took only 2 pain pills sense surgery .. Its just very uncomfortable, but no pain. BM hurt felt like something sharp trying to come through... I am drinking a powder laxative. That really help so its not hard but,I can fill it when I gets ready to pass. Other than that I am really good....

To Dec. 5, and Dec. 9, 2017. Curious how you two are doing? I was Nov. 29, 2017. I am feeling about 70% better but still having enough pain and trouble managing the right kind of BM's. When I have a BM it sets off several hours of pain and some swellilng still with minimal light BM discharge. I know I am not alone but I frustrated with the slow recovery time.

hi to 29 nov 2017,
before saying anything I want to assure u things will get better ... some take a bit longer than others depends on how many hemorrhoids were removed.. but it will get better ...
secondly the discharge is normal it will improve becoz u anal muscles will rebuild strength in time.
the pain after bms will also improve as the wound will continue to heal. as for me my bms have never been pain ful except for the first time which was also not as bad as I have read online with people experiencing excruciating pain... I have only taken 3 pain killers in 6 weeks periods.
I went to the doc and the swelling which I assumed was an external hemorrhoid , he said it's just the skin ... and it's very minute now..
I also do have some discharge specially after bowel movements but I am not worried about it as the doctor told me it will remain for a long time.
please dunt be frustrated.. and keep yourself calm
i can share the details of my diet with you for less painful bowel movements.
my doctor adviced me to follow a low residue diet and may be this is the reason I didn't have pain with bowel movements. I know mostly doctors advise to have a high fibre diet. my doctor totally opposed it and asked me to have soluble fiber instead of insoluble fibre.
example, cucumber zucchini ..may be you can try that .. and read more about low residue diet..
anyways patience is the key and let me know if u want to talk to me during your recovery period I will hear you ... take lots of care drink lots of water and don't stop using stool softeners

You don't know how much I appreciate your reply. You are spot on about everything because as I look back, everything you said is slowly coming true. Some weeks I can't tell things are getting better..so it's not day to day, its week to week or longer to notice improvement. Therefore you're right about patience.
Fiber supps always made my constipation worse and I never could tell what type of foods helped except for maybe beans. My doc of course recommended high fiber diet, whole grains, bran cereal, etc. So, post op, fiber still makes it worse. I should have known better. Some people just do worse with more fiber and some people say just eating a piece of fruit helps them. I have a "extremely long colon" per my colonoscopy and I believe longer "travel" time and slow motility with that.
I read up on low residue diet. I am wheat, rye, and barley free. What do you have for breakfast? Any other diet details are appreciated, would love to read a sample of your diet day.
Thank you for hearing me and for the advice. Already feel better.

hi there,
I wish you have a speedy recovery... I am myself follow gluten free diet coz of an autoimmune disease.. no wheat barley rye or any gluten containing food plus limited processed food limited to gluten free biscuits here and there ...
well as I said my doctor totally opposed to high fibre diet he said again and again no seeds specially pop corns and stalks of green veggies..
for me in particular in the first week I was on liquid diet and had rice congee ... and smooth peanut butter not crunchy but smooth peanut butter here and there to subside my hunger ... I had a friend who's friend underwent a colon surgery and he suggested that smooth peanut butter helps with hunger and also gives protein and won't hurt colon. so I used to have smooth peanut butter when I was on a liquid diet first week and a bit longer.
for break I asked doc if I can have eggs and tomatoes he said yes.. so I eat eggs boiled or poached ... coz now I can tolerate I do eat a piece of gluten free bread..
some days I eat rice mixed with bak choy Chinese vegetable without stalks..
but before breakfast it's my long habit of having a lemon honey water and fresh cucumber juice also I drink one bottle of coconut water and one bottle of ion water pocari.. well this much liquid and then my breakfast..
all through the day i will drink lots of water around 5 glasses . coz my day already starts with much liquid...
for dinner my friend I eat rice with anything available some curry with no spice at all.... only black pepper.. I dunt take any fibre suppliments.. I also eat yogurt in my dinner ...
in my 6 weeks i started a mid snack of half ripe papaya... or pear or Apple ...
I take senakot 2 tablets once in two days and lactolose 20 ml once in two days coz I want to rest my bowels for one day and also making sure I dunt get constipated .... I fry my bak choy in coconut oil as it's healing..
it's better to include some fats in ur diet when u will reduce carbs..
also i wud like to add wot works for me might not work for you .. u might want to have some changes.. but a low residue diet is recommended with any type of anorectal surgeries...
in also eat chucked and fish now without spice some salt and pepper wud do...
let me know if u want to ask something else.. this is such an difficult surgery I think we shud help each during recovery.
I plan to continue my diet for a good six months ....

sorry for so many typos.... I eat chicken and fish now like steamed... my rations options are very less and I dunt mind that ... if u can manage drink bone broth ... it also heals wounds ....
something that immensely helped me with my bowel movements is squatty potty ... and a bidet shower ... I dunt use tissue wet or dry nither will I ever do that ... .. having a bowel movement on a squat position will decrease the chances of having hemorrhoids in future ... as it's the right way to empty bowels....
I dunt use sitz bath ... but instead in a squat position I wud run hot water for further cleaning in my shower and also hot water soothes the anal area.. I also use hair dryer to dry my self so no touching of tissue down there in any case ...
of coz this all ain't possible outside home... so my doc advised if I am not at home so keep some medical gauze pads dipped in antiseptic in a plastic seal... and press against the anus for disinfection ... well I keep a disposable water bottle to wash my self and wud keep a antiseptic dipped gauze between my cheeks until I reach home and clean with hot running water ... anyways I avoid this process to happen outside ..but in case....
also dunt life heavy weight ! I hope this helps you to manage ur life during recovery !

Hello and good day,
Appreciate all you have to say and what you are doing to manage yourself. I learned a lot. My squatty potty is so helpful.
My daily diet usually consists of pears, apples, rice, peanut butter, avocados, gluten free oatmeal, homemade or plain yogurt, beans, zucchini more than other veggies, powder bone broth, matcha tea with coconut oil and/or grass fed butter. Chicken, turkey, fish, and less red meat. I have my share of not so healthy foods as well. And NO more additional fiber supplements. Will be making some ghee soon. I don't know if beans and lentils are recommended but they agree with me.
I have been off of stool softener for a month. I have had to rely on magnesium supplements, (not milk of magnesium), for a few years which I still take for constipation and it keeps my magnesium blood level normal. I'm afraid that no matter how good I eat I will always need magnesium supplement. I will continue to try to cut down on my magnesium later on. I do have room for diet improvement though despite some of the good things I eat daily.
I am gluten free because I carry the celiac gene and I believe at high risk for automimmune disease.
Thank you friend.

hi there,
I guess we both have a pretty much same kind of diet lols.... hail to squatty poty !
my doctor is a Chinese and he says insoluble fibre harms intestines.. and I guess mostly western diet includes less fibre diet so in West doctors recommends high fibre... but if the diet includes vegetables and fruits on the norm fibre suppliments do no good. I get constipated with Metamucil...
any ways I am here in case you need to talk. .. dunt loose hope and stay strong...

OMG had my surgery January 11th, and I know exactly what you mean about life revolving around bowel movements, I'm scared to leave the house before I have a bm. I have begun to wipe with wet wipes but then I am still jumping in the shower to clean off thoroughly.
This is my 4th week in recovery and the pain with bms has greatly improved, but it looks and feels like I have more hemorrhoids sticking out, I had one difficult bm two weeks post op and I hope I did not ruin the surgery, I have a appointment tomorrow to have it checked. I still have sutures sticking out like antenna.

try not to use tissue wot so ever... even I thot i developed a hemorrhoid post surgery but my doc confirmed it's not ... and the swelling is very very minute to believe him... I am getting a little bit of my confident back but still am not my 100 percent ... but I won't complain as before surgery it was worst ...
stay positive and remember everyone heal differently and at a different pace... I personally think a good 3 to 6 months is the actual recovery time period from this surgery ...
take good care !

Hi 9th of Dec. 2017. It's me, 29 of Nov. 2017 here. Just checking in to see how things are going with you. I'm at almost 11 weeks and doing pretty good. Still feeling tender, mild burning with BM's and a tiny bit of discharge through the day. Have to be pretty careful not to overdo things like sitting too long, wiping too hard, lifting to much. Though my days still revolve around having the right kind of BM, my morning ritual of taking care of it is much improved. I still have several hours of discomfort after BM's, but it's just discomfort now and not deep spasms.
I did not see the light at the end of the tunnel for weeks during this recovery.
Hope you are even more improved since 12 days ago. You were a great resource to me. Your experience with fiber was a huge help.

hi 29 of November,
you can call me haj, I am glad you are feeling better with time. its my 9th week and 3 days into recovery. well I am not my 100 percent but wud say 90 percent post surgery. even I am tender down there .. but the bms are not controlling my life now except when I have to go anxiety comes along but no pain post bms. my only complaint is some amount of discomfort which is related to some excess skin I guess am not sure becoz it's really very minute or I may be still healing.
I also have some discharge but no bleeding. I still use gauze pads and calmoseptine down there it helps with itch and easing the discomfort, rest I guess I have started to be human again.
I really hope all of us heal completely or to a point where bms shudnt be a problem...
this surgery taught me to value like more.
take care..
