ITS ALMOST CONFORTING TO KNOW I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THOUGH. MY FRIENDS THINK I OVER REACT ABOUT HOW I FEEL WHEN I DRINK BUT I KNOW THEY WILL JUST NEVER UNDERSTAND.
IT PRETTY MUCH HITS ME RIGHT AWAY TOO. I END UP NOT BEING ABLE TO SLEEP AND EVEN AFTER VOMITING, ILL LAY IN BED AND JUST FEEL SO MISERABLE.

Any answers would be good as going to the docs seems a tad pathetic.

I'm no expert, but this kind of thing sounds more like an intolerance' rather than an allergy. The difference being that in an allergy, your immune system reacts as though it is being attacked, and you get symptoms like hay fever or skin reactions like hives in the case of food allergies. An intolerance means that your body cannot process something well. When some people say they are allergic to wheat, because it gives them stomach pains, what they mean is that they have an intolerance, similar to lactose intolerance. I haven't read all of the posts here, so I don't know if someone has brought this up yet... I think that some people are just more sensitive to alcohol than others. I know I'm one of them, but what most people here have so far described sounds like an intolerance. However, some people may have allergies to something in the alcoholic beverage, such as wheat in beer, or sulfites in wine, or any number of other chemicals used as preservatives in alcoholic beverages.

I am 42 years old and for exactly one year, I have been having this very strange reaction. I wake up with ballooned up lips, and it's followed by a nasty rash on my cheeks close to my mouth. The swelling goes down in a few hours, but the rash will take up to a week to heal.
It only happens in my sleep. (overnight)
I've changed pillows, sheets, comforters.....I've even changed the room I sleep in for a few months.....still happened.
I am a person of habit: same soap, detergent, perfume, makeup brand...all the same. Even what I drink is pretty consistent. Normally, Miller Lite with some Cuervo shots, or a vodka night - Vodka and club, or on the rare occasion, red wine.
I pretty much drank most nights of the week, like for happy hour, not in excess. I'd come home, and go to bed.
I've been to an allergist. She put me on Allegra and Zantac in the morning, and Zyrtec and Zantac at night. I took it for 6 months.....still happened.
I went to a rheumatologist (swelling and pain specialist). Had all crazy blood tests to rule out any auto immune deficiencies...while I was waiting for the blood results (1 week) I was given and antihistimine and Ativan to take at night (incase this was stress related). During that week, I did not consume alcohol of any form. My face cleared up. I thought I was cured!! Then I wanted to go out. So I ask the doctors nurse if it's ok (after all my blood work came back normal and fine) and she said I could, but don't take the Ativan if you do. So, whenever I was going out, I didn't take the Ativan. It's still happening!!
This past Friday night, I went out and met my friend. I had 4 Miller Lite drafts and then just before I went home, one shot.
Saturday morning was the worst flare up of all time!!!! I went to the ER so they could give me a needle for the swelling. I couldn't get it to go down on my own.
As of yesterday, I'm swearing off all alcohol. No beer, no wine, no shots, no vodka, no nothing!!!!!! If after one month of being cold sober, this all goes away, then I know I've found my problem!! Funny how all these doctors can't figure this out. I'm uninsured, so I'm paying a fortune for all the doctors to give me no answers......very frustrating.

I actually have began to question if there is such a phobia or allergy as I cant take the smell of alcohol wipes lately even the smell of the gel's in hospital and doctors makes me throw up. the G.P has never heard of such a thing but when I use injections weekly I have to avoid the wipes.

It really could be an histamine intolerance. I got it as well and I found a dietary supplement called Daosin. It makes it possible to hold my histamine level in my body and I can avoid easily an allergic reaction. I take one pill right before I eat and that's eat.
But I recommend an appointment with your doctor or allergist first to make sure you can take Daosin. I don't wanna hurt ya ;)
best wishes! :)
