I have spasms ,just inside of my anal opening, mostly at night. The pain is so intense that it will wake me from sound sleep. Sometimes I can use a suppository and when I have a slight bm, the pain will lessen, other times I can walk around and the pain will lessen.
It makes me feel sick on my stomach, because the pain is so sharp. The pain will go away in away in 15 to 30 mins. Does anyone know what this is? I have had this for several years, so I don't think thats is very serious??? or maybe it is. Any one else have this problem.?

Another possible thing is problems with pudendal nerve that causes perineum pain. Perineum is situated between testicles and anus.
Have you seen a doctor about it during all these years?

This also happens to me. It occurs about once a month since I was 17, and I am now 37. Like yourself, this pain wakes me from my sleep. It's starts off light and increases exponentially. I end up pacing the bedroom until the pain subsides. It feels like I need to go number 2, but this seems to only increase the pain. There's been times when the pain has been so severe that my lips turn blue which I've read that this is associated to a drop in blood pressure. The episode lasts like you state 15-30 minutes. I almost think that some these episodes occur after a day of high stress or anxiety. I'm not sure if there is any corelation here. I talked to my doctor not knowing at the time the name of it "proctalgia fugax", and he set me up with an appointment at some place downtown. I had the finger test and was told that it was not cancer related. It was pain that I had to live with. Now that I know what it's called on the Internet I'm going to go back to my doctor to see if there is any medications out there that may help to eliminate the pain immediately when it occurs. Hope this helps

I have these spasms. I have been diagnosed with pudendal neuralgia. This pain is very intense, and feels sharp like. I use a heating pad and the pain usually subsides in 15-20 minutes. It normally wakes me out of a sound sleep.

I sit on an ice cube wrapped in a rubber glove. The pain (most severe I've ever felt) goes away in less than 5 minutes. This works every time for me. Sometimes it recurs 20-30 minutes later so keep the ice handy. Wish I had known this when they first started. Don't leave the ice on too long. After 3-5 minutes the pain is gone and I remove it.

Hi, I am just a guest....because...I just had one of those horrid spasms. Gives a whole new meaning to 'a pain in the butt'. I am a female. I have had these awful things only rarely, as has my sister, but for maybe 25 years. We are in our late 50's. I am grateful for some of the advice here. I went to the toilet and tried to go poo. The release of the sphincter did stop the spasm. Good point. I have sat cross-legged to stop the pain, as well. Thank-you for sharing. It is a wonderful thing when people can talk without shame on a venue like this and help each other. Can you imagine....I met my soul mate on the internet where people discuss anal spasms. I know that this pain is no joke, but, honestly, one has to joke about these bizarre health issues when no one really knows why they happen. It beats being in mortal fear over the dreaded experience! Thank-you again for sharing your solutions!

I have got this procatalgia fugax too, for 10 years now. It started when I was about 43 years old. Done the finger test for cancer and doctors were not very helpful with solutions.
I found online the remedy. When the spasm starts do the Child's Pose (Balasana), but lift your butt up and make your anus stretched. I also noticed when the gas passing out I get relief faster.
