Hello,

I've been addicted to painkillers for about 8 months and I'm trying get off of them. A little background

This is a really long read so I'll post a summary for those that don't have the time

Basically, I'm looking for people that have been addicted to painkillers but for a short time. Everything that I have read says that the withdrawals are dependent upon length of use but most seem to be in the years range which doesn't apply to me or does it?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. If you have the time to read the background, I posted a novel lol. So be warned

I decided about 3 months ago to start tapering down on methadone. I had previously been using roxy's which I would then use the methadone the last couple weeks to come off of the roxy's. I then started mixing the two but not at the same time. I would take the roxy's for a few days or a week, then take methadone for a week or so to help stretch the script.

I just wanted to add that I have tried to find a clinic that would fit my situation. I waited too long before trying to seek help, I know this. The program that I need would cost $1000's which I don't have. I need to be able to see the Dr for the eval, give me my maintenance dose and then check in during the week. I need to be able to keep my full time job. There is no way around this. I know I messed up but I have to find a way to fix it..

Please let us not focus on what I could have or should have done. I really need to know if anyone has been addicted for anywhere near the time I have and what were your experiences? I also am aware that this should be done under medical supervision but that unfortunately isn't an option.

So I have been tapering down the methadone to the point where I was taking 2.5mg/day which of course was 1/4 of a 10mg. I then ran out of methadone on the 25th. I went until around 6:30pm on the 27th before I had to take suboxone. I only have a few suboxone that I received from a friend. I decided to try a low dose to see if I could stretch them as long as possible. I tried 1/4 or 2mg which worked like a charm. I had this burst of energy which was highly surprising and I doubt I'm gonna feel that again. I took it at 6:30pm then didn't have to take another dose until around 5:00pm the next day. I never started hurting until the last hour.

I then decided to take 1/8 of a piece to see if I could stretch these even further. When I took the dose, my mouth was really dry but I didn't want to drink as I figured that the saliva was needed to break down the pill. For some reason, my saliva started to form a foam and I was only able to keep it sublingually for only a few minutes. It was frustrating yet funny for some strange reason at the time lol. I started to feel better but not the way I felt before. I don't know if this was due to the lower dose or lack of proper absorption. I went to bed hurting a little but it was manageable. I woke up today and decided to try an 1/8 again to see and it wasn't enough.

So I'm going to be using 2mg of suboxone for as long as I can get them or I come off of them. I may be able to get 5 more which would be 20 more days but we're waiting to hear back. This could dramatically change this situation but I would still like to hear people's experiences

I took hydrocodone for pain for about two months. Started feeling a bit too sedated and a little depressed, tapered one week to one per day after taking 2-4 5 mg tablets a day.... the withdrawals were a killer. Sweats, chills, headache, nausea, loose stools, panic attacks/anxiety, insomnia, then more depression. I'm just now feeling a bit better after almost 2 months of stopping and on an antidepressant/anti-anxiety med. but I've had a lot of stress family, marital, and a death in the family the past 6 months, so this could have contributed, not to mention the herniated disc I originally got on the pain meds to begin with. Effexor helps as most antidepressants that also help anxiety. Also, you can try this herbal remedy:

Acupuncture also helps with the withdrawals as well as massage. Tried both and it did help. Hang in there, it does get better, but it will take a while, be prepared for 2 weeks to 2 month recovery time to feel like yourself again.
