I just started taking Topomax and have noticed increased mucus in my throat which is extremely annoying. It tends to happen more after I eat so I’m not entirely sure it is from the medication but I never had this problem before.

I just started taking topomax a couple months ago and I am getting the excess mucus in the throat, more so every time I eat. I thought it was something else until I read the last thread. But I am sick of it as well. I had to pull over while driving and try to clear it out.

Me too! Did u find out that it was the topomax that was causing it? Because this is exactly what I am experiencing. I cannot stand it anymore.

I just stopped taking the topomax and the excess mucus in my throat actually went away and i can now eat without gagging and throwing up. I knew it was time to quit the drug when I was starting to become afraid to eat anything, let alone drink anything. Although it did help with the dizziness that I was experiencing.

While the most common side effects of Topamax include tingling in the arms and legs, weight loss, drowsiness, dizziness, and changes in taste, other less common side effects can occur.

If it's decided that you need to stop the medication, it's crucial to follow the doctor's instructions on how to taper off, if necessary. Stopping a medication suddenly, especially antiepileptic drugs like Topamax, can sometimes lead to withdrawal symptoms or an increased risk of seizures.

Regarding the duration for the symptom (like excessive mucus) to go away after stopping the medication, it can vary depending on the individual and the side effect in question.
