Had the surgery 5 months ago.  Glad I did, my doctor was very good and got all of it out.  I had a lump on the top eyelid and bottom eyelid.  The top chalazion was small and noticable, and the bottom was large but not very noticable.  Go figure.

It took about 2 to 3 weeks for the swelling to come down.  I used an antibiotic paste in my eyes for that period.  I had some scar tissue which actually started to swell up around week 6 to week 8.  I started to worry that it was coming back.  Kept up with the warm compresses.  It eventually went back down.

Finally my eye is really back to normal.  It takes time, but its normal to worry.

Can those who have successful surgery advise me your hospital/ clinic doctor name? I did once at TTH by a young doctor. A terrible experience and he told me he removed nothing! "Nothing come out from incise". Most likely he cut the wrong place. After 3 month, the chalazion is still there. during revisit, he told me "it's good" and nothing more he could do about it.

pls, I need an experienced doctor

I am having my 4th operation done next week. The first 2 were uncomfortable, but nowhere near the pain I felt on my 3rd go around. I have a pretty high threshold for pain, but everything about this operation was terifficly painful. First off, even the anaesthetic hurt more this time. Second, the doctor kept slipping with the forceps, causing extreme discomfort. Third, the pressure from draining the upper lateral chalazion felt more like sharp pain from the scalpel. It felt like the big dude Game of Thrones crushing my eyes with his thumb. The doctors say it was because the chalzion was very fibritic. I recommend taking an ativan or any benzo before this operation if your chalazion is on the lateral side.

I never had one removed but did have one that went away on its own. Ever since then I have what appears to be a scar and the eyelashes lay all funky. It drives me nuts.

I use a warm compress 5 minutes a day as maintenance after my chalazion surgery 4 years ago and have not had one again. A warm compress a day goes a long way to prevent future chalazion formation.

I've had chalazions for almost a year on both eyelids (upper). Finally after trying everything from antibiotics to hot compresses, i got the surgery. A bit different from the procedure done in 15 minutes. It was 100% painless & quick. I was put under general anesthesia, so I was totally knocked out. They took me back, cleaned them out & I was done in about 30 minutes. Took a bit longer because they were pretty bad. They put lidocaine jelly over my eyelids so it was pretty numb after I woke up. It's been a little less than 24 hours since my surgery and the results are excellent. There is still redness and minimum swelling but the ice compresses are helping with that. I suggest this to anyone with low pain tolerance! It's quick, easy and Effective. As of now there is no scarring. My vision has minimum blurring due to the drainage but nothing you can't handle. Oh and you get hydrocodone! Yay.

I had the surgery last week, the shot was painful but didn't feel the rest of the process. I am very disappointed because now it looks like it came right back the same as before. I apply the ointment provided 3 times a day and the worst of it now I have pain in the back of my eye. I will try a new solution I heard of and will post if it works.

I thinking about getting the surgery done to remove a chalazion in my lower eye. It's been there for about 4 months and has been getting bigger. Does anyone know how long they typically make you wait to get the procedure done? It seems like a lot of people go to the dictor and then the surgery is scheduled much later, I suppose to see if it heals on it's own by then. I've had styes and chalazia before, and I can tell this one is not going to leave, so I'm hoping to get it over with as soon as possible. I wish I could just get the procedure done the same day I visit so I can start getting better.

It is important that you visit your eye doctor immediately for the treatment of your chalazion. There are different treatments in this condition, including steroid eye drops or antibiotics. Or you may try at home treatment like a warm compress. If the chalazion does not heal after treatment, you will be recommended for a surgery. This is done when a chalazion block your vision, or leads to an astigmatism.

I just had surgery today on my chalazion and I agree, the shot of novicane is the worst part.
