Is there anyone taking risperdal? I need some advice regarding risperdal use and its side effects. My 19 years old daughter is diagnosed recently with bipolar disorder-it is about manic depression more precisely and she has also been hospitalized for 3 weeks. Now she is back home and this is her third day of home treatment and she is taking lithium in combination with this risperdal tabs and I have actually hard time with giving her these tabs one after another for she is not willing to cooperate that much I know about lithium it is mood-stabilizer but is there anyone taking risperdal to tell me how does it works. Thanks!

Hi! I have the same situation in my family for my brother's daughter is also diagnosed with the same illness and is prescribed the same combination-lithium and resperdal and basically risperdal is some sort of antipsychotic med that is suppose to reduce the manic symptoms and it usually starts working after third day of its use but to reach the better condition the whole treatment is needed to be taken. My niece also has trouble swallowing tabs so if this is your problem than you have there different forms of risperdal as oral liquid but also there is risperdal M-tab my niece is using them for there are so easy to take they dissolve in the mouth within few seconds and has a good taste as I have heard. And as for the risperdal side effects there are those usual side effects-dizziness, headache, nausea sore throat and dry mouth and so on, but it is not like everyone who takes risperdal could develop those side effects and also there are much more serious risperdal side effects such as muscle stiffens and joint pain and some other symptoms such as uncontrolled movements and if it comes to this side effects I advice you stop giving risperdal to your daughter. My niece has also elevated blood sugar level due to the resperdal use and she is controlling it now very frequent so I recommend your daughter check her sugar level for it is very common that it elevates for the resperdal.

My daughter has just been prescribed with Risperdal for extreme anger issues and noncompliance with adults and teachers. How safe is this for her?
