Ever since I was probably age 6 or 7, I have had this horrible habit of cheek and lip biting. I've always done it to the point of causing bleeding, sometimes moderately heavy. I am 21 now and it seems to have gotten worse. I bit the inside of my bottom lip so badly that now I have an aphthous ulcer. It is extremely sore and the gums in that area are sore, as well. I am not sure if I am experiencing referred pain or if my gums are infected. I am scheduled for a dentist appointment Friday, but I was wondering if anyone had any advice. I have heard of certain mouthwashes to treat the mouth sores... can anyone verify this? I would like to quit, but I have an eerie feeling that quitting should be posted on the Mental Health Board. Any other remedies that could help relieve the pain? I put regular salt on the wound and that was painful, but it didn't hurt as bad afterwards. Any ideas?
