My brother had heart valve surgery few months ago, when doctors replace his heart valve with artificial. Now he is very good and doesn’t have any complication, thanks god. He needs to use medication called warfarin. He said that he must to take it for life. Is it true? Why people who have artificial heart valves need to take walfarin for life?

If your valve has been replaced with a mechanical valve, you will need to take blood thinners indefinitely because the risk of clots never goes away. Because artificial heart valves are hindered by their tendency to coagulate the blood. Warfarin is an anticoagulant and it reduces the formation of blood clots.
