It's generally thought to be inflammation in the vegus nerve. when stool passes the irritated area the vegus nerve kind of spazzes out. Since it is a long primitive nerve that spans directly from your gut to brain and controls things like heart regulation and breathing, fight or flight response etc, it can have a dramatic but generally short lived effect. Lowered blood pressure and adrenaline dump cause dizziness nausea panic etc. I have taken to keeping a padded stool in the bathroom near the toilet. When I feel it coming on I drag the stool I don't of me and just lay my head and torso on it, and try to relax as much as possible. This way if I pass out I don't crack my head on the floor. Alleviates some of the anxiety associated with it and makes everything less horrible. Good luck.

Your best bet is to reduce inflammation in your body. Reduce stress, Avoid processed food, reduce carbs, take low doses on NSAIDs daily, and cultivate a heathy gut with probiotics like fermented foods and yogurt, and pre-biotics like ACV, flax, chia, jicama...

Realizing it won't kill you, and making your bathroom a safe place to suffer rhru helps a lot since anxiety makes it worse.

I experienced the exact same symptoms about a month ago and chalked it up to food poisoning ... last night I had another episode ... I don't think these bouts are food poisoning ... worse then having kids !!! My head won't stop hurting and I'm weak all over . Have you found out what is causing yours ??? I don't want to go sit at the dr. And them tell me it's food poisoning when I know it's not .

You sound like you are stimulating your vagus nerve it will cause all those symptoms
From pushing to poop or the bowel against the vagus nerve.

I also had the exact symptoms. The pai. made ne hyperventilate. I would have bm that started hard ended diarrhea only then would the pain ease. Always had stomach issues even dx with ulcerative colitis at 19. II was dx with graves disease a year ago. Years agter these episode sstopped. Check out gut issues with graves disease or thyroid disease and its connection to your gut. I believe My graves could had been avoided would the connection been made while these dr never connected the 2.

I have been having these episodes at least a few times a year for 20 years or more. Mine happen in the morning, usually if I had to get up early or didn't sleep well the night before. I go sit on the commode and everything's fine at first, but then I feel nausea and sweats and strip off my clothes and wet a washcloth and put it on the back of my neck. Sometimes Pepto helps. I have noticed a correlation between caffeine consumption (especially coffee on an empty stomach first thing in the morning) and these episodes. Sometimes I can go months without an episode, drinking my coffee first thing, so it doesn't always trigger it, but I'm pretty sure every time I've had an episode I've also had coffee on an empty stomach. If I eat something first, I'm usually ok. Quitting smoking has also helped. I've never thought to mention it to my doctor, because it happens so infrequently, and because she will probably say DUH-Don't drink coffee on an empty stomach!

I have also thought those thoughts. When i did have this the worst I started taking stool
Softeners (not a laxative, just a softener) so when i go it won't hurt as much. Between that and eating foods that digest easily (like soups, popsicles, gatorade and jello for calories at first) I started to find normalsy. I still get this about twice a year, but my weight came halfway back and those thoughts have gone away mostly. Still, when it is happening, I think like that a little, but I know I will get better eventually. And so will you. Too many of us on here for dr's to ignore for too much longer. Good luck!

I am just like you all. Seriously. Only thing I have found that helps some, is that when I am at my worst, shirt off and feeling like I am going down, i put somthing under my feet to ease the bm, i lean back to not pinch the digestive track, and then Pour Ice Water down my back and chest. The shock makes the movement happen for a quick second without having to push. This is a temporary releif, but has gotten me through some really terrifying times! Good luck friends.

I was able to figure out my issue. I've been to several GI and Colo rectal doctors and physical therapist. My issue is that the puborectalis muscle actually doesn't relax when I have to go number 2. What has been helping me tremendously is using a therawand. Yes.. I know, it's crazy sticking things up your booty. Yes, it's annoying having to do this on a daily basis. Yes, it was so painful to press the muscles and get them to relax. However, I'd rather do this daily and have a regular bowel function than to suffer.

I was skeptical at first but it's been 2 weeks and I'm going everyday once a day!! :D no more fainting on the floor with cramps and sweats...no more constipation suffering.

You guys should look it up on amazon and read the reviews so you can see what I'm talking about. Before I use to do this manually to have a bowel movement but I wasn't getting all the deeper muscles.

Works but don't lean forward. May want to for comfort, but it may pinch the Gi track. Straight up or lean back.

I have suffered from this for a long time too. Only my mom knows what i go through. I find it so embarrassing mine usually hits at night too. First the horrid pains, I hobble to the bathroom. Then I get the hot rushing over my body. Then feeling like I could throw up. I usually grab the trash can and put it in front of me as I strip my clothes off. Sweating all over. My mouth will water like crazy as if I'm about to throw up but I don't. Usually if I roll a towel up and press it in between my lower abdomen and my legs it helps push the bm out. Always hard at first then diarrhea. After a bm I will get really cold but still sweating. Sometimes I try to go lay back in bed between attacks. But sometimes it's too painful to move from the toilet. Occasionally but not always I can tell an attack is coming bc I have mild cramps/ grumbling for a few days prior. And I know it won't stop until that feeling goes away and are totally empty. It's the worst thing in the world. I've tried eliminating dairy, less soda, nothing really helps. The only thing that's somewhat common is if I eat greasy foods....bacon, deep fried veggies, fair food. Those seem to trigger it. But not always. Had an episode last night and my stomach still feels off and I'm afraid to eat or drink anything right now. :( Will research the pelvic floor muscles bc I did get some stressful news yesterday that may have contributed as well. So sorry that others have to endure this. I've been to doctors numerous times and ER. I've been to many doctors/ER but they always say it's gastroenteritis. Yeah right. Hope we find a cure!

I think what you are experiencing is the pain from the peristaltic movements on the colon. The doctors..have they given you any anti spasmodic drugs for it? Also, I would try to drink PURE ALOE juice. Not the ones with sugar. They sell them at walgreens. I swear to god it works for my upper GI pains that they have claimed to be gastritis.

Another episode yesterday.. on top of that I've had some nasty piles forthe last week..
Personally. I think it has a lot to so with diet issues. I've been keeping tabs on my last few episodes and all seem to happen after injesting a lot of oil.. like large servings of bacon and really geesy meals. yesterdays was coconut oil that i applied to my piles. Before that the two pizzas I've eaten after my 230km cycle ride..
the symtoms seem the same sweat and nasuea followed by this unbearable pain and panic that I feel like I'm dying. My heard even slows down you know the sensation before you pass out, and then stool passes and you feel fine except the fatigue you feel.

Maybe your gallbladder is not functioning as well as it should cause greasy fatty foods. Are you constipated? Or feel like you can't move your bowels? These pains happened to me as well along with the passing out feeling. I would lay on the floor and pray to God to take the pains away. I know the feeling.
