! >;) I had mine done Friday 13, 2010, I had a Dr appt Thursday afternoon and he scheduled me to have this procedure the very next morning. To my surprise, a Registered Nurse was the one that did the procedure , their dept was understaffed so he let me know that it was just him and I that were going to go thru this together, the assistant who coaches was pulled away . I was never sedated or explained the procedure, I asked but he insisted to only walk me through as it happened. Had I known what I was going to go through I would of been put to sleep. He had me inhale a syringe full of Lidacaine through one side only,That burns as it goes up your nose, then he shoved a very long wooden q-tip with lidacaine up my nose. It hurt like hell and let him know. I had to tip my head up and sit up for the proccedure. He kept shoving the tube up my left nostril and it was so painful.I cried! It was the worst feeling/experience for me. He ask me if I had ever broken my nose? I replied no. He said my nose was off on that side. so then he changed to the other nostril. He shoved the tube up my nose but this time it went in. it was still an awfull experience of three tries of pain, gagging, vomiting, and have that awful sensation in my throat. Yeah they had me take a very small sip of water so that their device would go down my throat in a swallow. My appt was at 11am,told to arrive at 10am, I left the hospital at 4. I was told to continue to eat normally and given a diary sheet and his on call number. They never went over any serious side effect,he just told me my throat would probably be soar, I was in discomfort but I to tylenol round the clock and ate. I could feel the sensitivity on my chest. By Sat night I knew there was something wrong. Sunday I was miserable. I could not eat anything it hurt so bad. I let the RN who did my procedure know, he suggested to wait til Monday morn to go to er to have it removed because I should not be having any difficulties. I was on pain pill and I still had pain. It really does feel like I have an Alien inside my chest about to burst out. Monday morning I go to the Er. The Dr has no clue what procedure I've had and asked me alot of questions. The Er dr. determines I have irritation from my procedure. He gives me Malox, lidacaine,Carafate to drink then before he releases me gives me pain meds thruough the IV. None of it help rid my pain and discomfort! But the Er was understaff and staff was pull for stroke victims, just my luck, I was sent home to be on pain pills every 4 hours and follow up w my dr in 5-7 days. I called my dr and asked him to do another xray and to remove my chip, so I am going this morn for the xray and 10:30am Appt.

HI Guys,.... I was fearful of going with the bravo capsule study at first. I had this put in on the 1st of Sep. It does hurt a little specially when eating/swallowing food and liquids. But it is not bad enough to bear. I am just glad I am done with the 24 Hrs and the device turned off by itself. The experience may be different for different people. But if you need answers, rough it out and hope everything turns out fine. Hope you all feel better soon.....

OMG I just had this Bravo ph capsule placed on Thurs and it has been unbearable. I adore my GI doc and trust him to no end, but I was told this is not painful for most, just a little uncomfortable with swallowing. NO NO NO! This thing hurts like waves of intense sharp chest pain. Lying on your back, side, sitting, swallowing (even soup), burping, coughing. My husband called me overly sensitive, I would love to see him with this thing in his esophagus. Honestly, I don't believe the results will be useful as I have not been able to maintain a normal diet with this thing, and the buttons you are to push for reflux, vomiting, chest pain are useless too...I can only feel sharp pain, it's masking everything else. I would suggest another method to anyone considering this.

Yes, this is absolute torture. 4 straight days of pain. Doubled over at night, crying. Far far worse than the reflux ever was. Almost want to schedule another procedure to have it removed. I feel completely misled when the potential side effects were presented to me. Please think twice before doing this. I was told it was need before insurance would authorize hiatal hernia surgery. But I've been taking so many antacids trying to take this pain away that the results will be completely invalid.

My 20yr old daughter had the bravo monitor inserted at 930 this morning and has been in pain ever since. She slept most of the day. At 730pm she woke up, and is now just sitting here afraid to move because it hurts so much. She says its pinching her. I too fear this test will not show accurate results because she isn't eating. We may be at the er tonight to have it removed if it continues to be this painful. She also has a funny wheeze when she inhales.

I just had a Brave ph inserted to days ago Dec 14 2011, my experience is that its very uncomfortable. I feel it every time i swallow whether theres saliva or not. The muscles contracting under sternum makes it hurt. They say 48 hours of monitoring, but the first 24 are a bust, you don't feel like eating anything because of the discomfort. I will never do this again, there has to be a better way to diagnose someone with GERD. I called the doctor and they said it was normal to feel it, wow! Really? You didn't mention that in pre or post op. I've suffered with what is believed acid reflux and have realized that I hold my stress in my stomach, some people get back aches or headaches, I'm always flexing my stomach muscles and once I figured that out and relaxed the stomach my symptoms starting going away. I'm on the 2nd day and can only suggest to eat whatever you want, push through the pain and get that capsule out of you. The best way to get rid of it is to eat food to push it out. I hope this helps someone!

I had this test done and I felt it for approx. 3 days on the third day i felt it going on down like it was suppose to do. Yes, it did get the doctor all the readings he needed if you keep your diary and pushed the box like you were told to do. It does have discomfort for the two-three days but remember to chew up your food very small. But you are to eat normally or they can't get true reading.

I was advised that it may or may not be felt after it is placed in the esophagus.  The first couple days, it hurt to swallow only.  I was able to deal with it by eating cold liquids to wet the small bites of solid food before swallowing or by drinking milk shakes.  Later, the acid reflux would irritate the spot where the device is/was affixed.  I expect this will go away as the abrasion heals.  I hope this helps.

I just had the procedure done last week and except for a bit of pressure I had at times while I was eating, I didn't have any problems at all.
