had mine done almost two weeks ago; the prep nurse told me that it would hurt. i almost just went for the EGD w/o it, but the doctor came over, said it wouldn't be that bad and essentially told me that while it was my choice, if the endoscopy showed no obvious cause for my symptoms, that i;d have to get the bravo capsule anyway at another time, so i consented. asked if he'd ever had someone come back and have it removed due to pain / complications. he said that he had not. for me the pain wasn't anything i couldn't handle, and i'm not particularly tough.

I'm sorry to hear about your insurance issue. You are likely 100% aware, but many of the prescription products now come OTC, so maybe you can use those to get some of the relief? Acid reflux is no joke -- it stinks -- and I would hate to live with it without having my Omeprazole to tame down the symptoms. Good Luck!

I had my bravo capsule inserted five days ago, and experienced terrible pain. I could not eat, swallow, or sometimes breathe. My blood pressure went up. The pain was so intense that after three days I was advised by the doctor's office to go to the emergency room, where I was given liquid morphine (I could not swallow a pill). I got a prescription for this for about a week, small dosages, 2 milliliters every four hours. This helped, somewhat. Doctors who do this procedure and fail to warn patients of the painful consequences are criminals. Not sure when and if the capsule will leave the body. I've read where some get X-rays showing the capsule still in the stomach or intestines for months. All of this should have been explained by the doctor, who, at a minimum, should have prescribed liquid pain medicine following the procedure. Strong warnings should have been issued. Why, after years of people complaining, has nothing been done about informing patients? If I had read these complaints earlier, I might never have agreed to have this procedure done.

I had the procedure done on Friday 9/20 and noticed as soon as I awoke that there was pain. The pain was very bad for the next few days, and every time I sipped water or ate it was very painful, as if I could feel the capsule just dancing around in my esophagus, and I barely ate. The pain eased up after a few days, but I'm now on the 8th day and I can still feel the capsule with every swallow. This is definitely the worse procedure I have ever had done. I was lied to like most of you as well, and was told "you wouldn't feel it."

I had my procedure on 10/9 & I've not been able to eat, sleep nor work. The pain is unbearable. The chip is very uncomfortable & I'm trying to see when will it fall off because I can't take this pain much longer.

Does anyone have positive stories about this nightmare looking Bravo capsule? Seeing 7 pages of tortuous threads about this is frightening and it's hard to believe that so many GI specialists would be using something which is causing such harm on a regular basis. For those of you where the capsule isn't coming out, how are you having it removed? another endoscopy to remove it or surgery? and for anyone with severe colon motility problems like me, is this going to stay impacted in my intestines indefinitely or will I need to up my laxatives to get it out? It seems to be more nightmare story after another and I was recommended this next week while having endoscopy, because severe undiagnosed nighttime retrosternal pain which radiates to my back and up my neck and oesophageal spasm. As someone with severe pain intolerance I can't imagine how I'd tolerate this.

I just recently had the 48 hour one done. I was told it's common to feel minor discomfort but otherwise shouldn't be much of a bother. I was also under the impression that it falls off at the 48 hour mark. It wasn't until I returned the device at the end of the 48 hours that I found out it could take a few extra days. It was extremely painful for me. I too couldn't breathe, eat, sleep or even move. Everything I took a breath or moved a certain way I was in agony. My 48 hours ended on a t hursday morning. That night the pain got so bad that I was in tears. I had my procedure done that Tuesday. I was in extreme pain till about Friday then by Saturday and Sunday it was bearable. I missed a whole week of work for this due to the unexpected pain. I basically survived off of soup and ice cream and even that was a tough struggle
