I slipped and fell this past summer, on July 13. I am 21, female and fairly active. however, I simply slipped and landed badly on gravel. my right ankle twisted inwards and dislocated, and the shin bone broke. The doctors performed surgery and put a screw through the shin bone and a plate with several smaller screws runs vertically from just below the outer ankle up about 6 inches.
3 months later they took the large screw out slapped a bandaid on the small incision and told me to walk it off.
I am walking relatively normal now, however I am uncertain about the nature of the plate in my ankle and how careful I need to be about re-breaking it or causing issues with the metal plate.
I have rolled my ankle severely several times before playing soccer and basketball, I am constantly worried now even just walking on even ground that I will accidentally hurt that ankle again. I'm terrified to slip on ice outdoors and worry that I will not be able to play sports for fear of re-breaking.
Any wisdom or advice would be greatly appreciated.
