brown discharge, period?

I haven't gotten my first period yet but recently I got this light brownish discharge. im not sure if it's my period because it's not really red. Answers?

Same kinda thing is happening to me , I'm 12 years old haven't started period yet and I have been having normal discharge for quite a long time now but 2 nights ago I started getting this brown tinted discharge with black dots in it! I am also experiencing slight cramps and back ache ! What is it?? I'm really desperate please can someone tell me what's happening!

To anyone experiencing this: don't worry, this is normal and ok! This is probably your first period. Because your body is still adjusting itself for puberty, periods can vary a lot and having very light periods (that look like brownish discharge) at first is very common. This happened to me a while ago and I freaked out as well but turned out I was fine. Just make sure to tell to your mother/trusted female relative about this because it's nothing to be ashamed or scared to talk about; (nearly) all women go through this natural process. Hope this helps! : )
P.S. Cramps are very common and backache/headaches are also normal.

That helps a lot, thanks! One question though: Are you sure? I'm 13 now and I've had normal discharge for a while, but for a few days I've been having blackish-brown discharge. You said this is normal? I'm sorry, I'm just really scared because I've looked it up and in some places it says it could be an infection or disease.

Actually most periods aren't red, but if they are brown it's just ok don't blood.. discharge is usually clear or white but as the time gets closer to your first period it will be brown, usually if it is brown it is your period.

Yes girly! I had cramps a lot before I started and you know what that means.... Period! So girly make sure you start taking tampons/pads to school with you just in case!

Hi, I am 13 and have a similar problem two days ago I looked down and saw a dark brown discharge looking substance in my underwear and just left it there and changed when I got home I put on a panty liners the next day just in case and saw the same thing but a little more.... I got scared and researched it and today the same thing is going on I am not sure if this is my period that I have just now gotten or if it is something I need to tell a doctor about please reply if you have any information on this
