I am having this sensation too- some kind of tingling sensation in the anus area- initially I thought it was diarrhoea and that stool was leaking but when I checked it was not so. I have had it only the last 2 days at night just before going to sleep, when I am lying down. It just lasts for about 5 to 10 seconds but is intense enough to be noticed and to make me feel anxious.

I have it, too. I'm wondering if it is a "buzzing" caused by a fluttering, tiny valve in a vein in the area. Veins have tiny valves so that the deoxygenated blood can travel back to the heart without any back-flow. Arteries--that carry oxygenated blood away from the heart--don't have the tiny valves.
Since the rectum/anus area is kind of an evolutionary weak area blood-vessel-wise (hence all the hemorrhoids), a fluttering tiny valve could have its signal picked up by a close-by nerve, and that might explain the sensation we feel. You may not have hemorrhoids, but that area may be a somewhat weak area, or an overly stressed area for you.
Mine doesn't correspond exactly with my pulse, but if the hemorrhoid/valve theory is correct, then it might have to do with a weak-ish valve that only buzzes when the blood builds up against it, and then it flutters as it releases the pent-up blood. That might explain the rhythmic nature of the buzzing.
That's my best guess. I don't think it's dangerous or will progress to something worse. It is annoying, but... it's still good to be alive; buzzing butt and all. I'm going to try and forget about it.

I have had this in the past and was diagnosed with ulcerative proctitus 4 years ago...it can be related to that or colitis but not always..might shine some light on the subject.

I have also experienced this very weird cellphone like vibration/buzzing in my anus. It only lasts about 2-3 seconds and it doesn't hurt, though it tickels a little. It even makes a vibration sound like a cellphone. It is bizzare. I am healthy, not on any meds. 48 year old female. It happens most ofen at night. A few times it was strong enough to wake me from sleep. Ss very strange. My doctor just said that if their's no pain or bleeding or discharge, not to worry about it. Wish it would stop.

I too have the phantom cell phone vibration and I drive for a living, have had back surgery in the past so I believe it is a pinched nerve. Like most "symptoms" I experience they cease on their own. However colon cancer runs in my family. I am a healthy 55 y.o female so I will follow up if it continues. Best of luck

I have this and vibrations in my legs and stomach. I read this could be a symptom of a vitamin deficiency. I was tested and sure enough I am low in B12, Vitamin D and Iron- and I'm a guy. I'm pretty sure I am low in Magnesium as most people in the USA who eat badly are. I'm trying to raise my D and B-12 and Magnesium levels and hope these vibrations stop. I get them after I eat and when I lay down to sleep at night. Sometimes they set my heart racing- which has sent me running to the ER on a few occasions. I've also read that these vibrations could be a result of Candida die-off as the vibrations started when I cut carbs and started taking a probiotic- trying to improve my gut health. Anyway- maybe this will help some of you. Take care.

This started for me post surgery while on Flagyl. It hasn't stopped some months later. Off and on through most days, it is a vibration.
