Hello! My father has problems with dementia. He suffered from depression at first and some sort of anxiety as well. Then he started to lose contact with other people and he was unable to carry out everyday tasks. Then he started repeating things in conversation, feeling suspicious of other people and he showed aggression. He used to drink a lot and his consumption of alcohol is still high. Can alcohol induce dementia?

Hello! Yes, alcohol can induce dementia. Alcoholic dementia is a slow and progressive condition caused by long-term or excessive drinking. It causes neurological damage and memory loss. The symptoms you described are the common symptoms of dementia and you should know they will become worse as the time passes. Dementia resulting from chronic alcohol abuse is usually permanent, even when alcohol abuse has ceased.
