A couple of years ago I had really bad allergies. I skipped a couple of seasons, and this year I am miserable. I had Claritan and Zyrtec prescribed before, so I went back to the Claritan. (Nothing else works and I need non-drowsy stuff). Anyhow, I have been on these for at least 45 days and I am massively dehydrated. I am trying to drink but am feeling like I am about to float away. (My urine is light colored). If I don't take a med, I am absolutely miserable. I can't breathe, I can't see, I can't function.

My questions: since I get tired of water--is Green Tea ok? I've been downing Arizona green tea like it's going out of style.

What other liquids do you recommend? I have noticed problems because of the dehydration.

Any other ideas?

The caffine in tea is a diuretic. Do they make a decafe version?

Some people use Crystal Light for flavor and minimul calories.

Sorry your allergies are so bad!! This is a crappy year!

I take Allegra-D and also get dehyrated; I drink a ton of water with lemons and Crystal Light Tangerine-Peach flavor. I also cut Powerade with about half water and it seems to help.
I hope you feel better!

Just a change of suggestion...
Go see an allergist to see if those meds are right for you. You could also discuss the dehydration thing with him/her.

I also take Claritin and have experienced dehydration.
Here is what I do:

I was prescribed claritin D and Nasonex, when I did both of them, I got really dehydrated, so...
I alternate...Claritin 1 day, Nasonex the next, and just keep alternating. it has worked fine. And since Claritin went OTC, I have switched from Claritin D, to plain Claritin, not as dehydrating, either.

hope this will help.

Yep, alternating did the trick. Those claritins had my system shut down!

And Mindy--I don't like to go to doctors. And now that we just moved, I have to start all over with a new doctor and am dreading that. My allergies are getting so bad that I am going to have to go in.... I was hoping they'd improve on their own with a little OTC help. So, I will be visiting a doctor shortly...

I know what you mean about doctors, AND finding a new one.
A suggestion if I may. Get all the questions you have (about whatever your situation is) together, maybe even write them down. Then ask those questions. AND make sure the doctor answers them to your satisfaction. I have a hard time with that whole waiting for an hour only to be seen for five minutes thing.
It is YOUR health after all.
