My five repetitions max for military press is 150lbs. What is the benefit in lifting 140lbs for five repetitions when I can do more? On the other hand, maybe it is better to do 3x5 instead 5x5 with increased weight. Does anyone have experience that would like to share with me, in order to help in this confusion?

I am certainly no expert on the topic but Rippetoe's routine for beginners would be a good place to start. Consider 3x5 to start, as this might be a nice transition into the higher total workloads then from the 5x5. Carefully overload you muscle, to reduce possibility of injury and take care about nutrition.
