I just wanted to second what a poster said. I had quit for three weeks before and everything SUCKED. it was boring, I felt boring, yes I had less anxiety but i was weird and boring. I figured well this is how its gonna be so I started again. Seven months later I was worse. I saw how it was ruining me and the person that I am. WHen you become a pothead you truly do lose yourself,-and sadly you are just a pothead. You really arent dealing with problems and real life and the problems are still there and the more and more u smoke weed the more u push down the problems-hence losing yourself more and more as time goes by. It is almost the end of day 6, and after three nightmares and feeling tired...well I know to expect more but already I am thinking better and feel basically no anxiety lready, a bit still but Im sure that if I feel so much less now, in a year I will be just amazing. The anxiety was ruining my life preventing me from making friends and preventing me to deal with serious trauma I had endured throughout my life. I was stuck in the past and just a pothead thinking I was better because of it... how does that make sense lol? I was even too paranoid to start working, too paranoid to go out, I did but I was always anxious and felt everyone was judging me. I mean my thinking isnt perfect yet, but I can see how it is starting to get better :)

The only things that are really bothering me here and there, is I am feeling angry and irritated and tired. I can eat fine and sleep fine too. SOmetimes I cant fall asleep until five am but thats ok. I like late night shows anyways ;) Thankfully I am on ODSP for some anxiety and depression for a cpl years, which Im sure weed didnt help, so Im not working thank God. Its like it all happened at the perfect time.

My advice is that when you see a good opportunity to quit, that can be a great time for you hence making it easier for you. Also the day before I quit, I had psychologically realized why I needed to, which helps. When I would go a day without it before, I was calling stress help lines, crying, freaking out, etc. Now that I psychologically know why Im quitting I dont find that Im having uncontrollable withdrawls like before, just anger which Im old enough to control somewhat. Im twenty two and was smoking since I was thirteen, pretty much everyday. For me I had to hit rock bottom to totally understand why I was quitting which helps me. It was to the point where I could only make friends with people if they had weed. LOL. and of course they were guys who were losers and just wanted to sleep with me and use me. Addictions really suck and do control you. Be strong and control the drug and conquer the world ! Good luck to alllllll :)

That was my post 9 months ago. I am now 11 months clean, and the tiredness has passed - but it has been rocky road to travel.

I became very agitated by 90 days. All that the dope had been suppressing came rushing back up and I needed to go see a doctor. I've been on antidepressants for 6 months and had a month solid of nightly sleeping pills to get my system back into a routine. And I had to give up coffee - without the THC downer the caffeine just left me too wired.

Do what you need to get off and stay off. My life is now better than it was when I was toking.

Best of luck.

Same thing Guys! Barely can make it to 11 am without a nap.I haven't missed smoking more than 3 days since I was 16 years old (31 now) and that only occurred twice. This is Day 5 or 6 for me, and I Smoked on average 2-3 blunts a day for 15 years with family,friends,and/or my wife most recently. Although it took about 30 minutes to fall asleep the First few days. I have been getting a Solid 7-8 hours of sleep at night. I started dreaming after the 1st day of not smoking. I Personally Will Never replace Marijuana for some Prescription Drug EVER, but was Very Interested to know if this was a Common Side Effect. It seems many of us here were Very Long Term Smokers and I respect your opinions far more then some bogus study which always has an Agenda for whoever funded it. I also have had no marijuana cravings. I feel alot better having read through many of your comments. I will continue to sleep when necessary, get some extra vitamins, and wait for the fatigue to pass. Thank you to the people who made this forum possible!

My apologies if someone has written what I am about to, I did not feel like reading through 6 pages of posts (got through 2). I have been smoking heavily daily since I was 15 (now 23). I was a division 1 college swimmer so was forced to quit periodically (or more often just cheat the test). Anyways, smoking does inhibit proper sleep which means slowly you will develop slight sleep deprivation. If you didn't know the only way to make up for sleep deprivation is to make up those hours of sleep we wasted due to weed. So naturally you will be tired at first but over time that will fade away. Try getting an extra hour or two of sleep a night if possible to make up for those hours lost. Now, why don't you feel tired while smoking weed despite the sleep deprivation accumulated? Because weed speeds our hearts up, for me I had to smoke in the morning and throughout the day to avoid that fatigue or drink a ton of coffee. To address the John Hopkins study, yes, daily smoking causes insomnia in most. I find it hard to sleep for a week after quitting despite my exhaustion. Daily smokers are so used to weed knocking them out that they're dependent. While not all experience this most actually do. This will subside anywhere from a week to a month in most people. So don't worry everything I've read here is normal.

In my opinion, I think we are all tired due to the drop of dopamine, or maybe we were always this tired before, but we just proclaimed it as being high. I use to get up go to work, the gym etc. when I smoked weed, but now that I've quit, I don't even wanna get out of bed, as a matter of fact all I want to do are the things I would do when I'd use to get high, watch tv, not leave the house, eat a little. I also quit drinking next to smoking so my case is a little extreme when it comes to tiredness. I also have a lot of anxiety, and that also drains me out. I think too much now, an sometimes my thoughts don't even make sense, it's just a bunch of randomness. My perception is distorted, I stare into space, and my days either seem too short, or LOOOONG. It will pass, BUT ONLY if you stick to it. Also consider, your lungs are healing themselves, your body mentally and physically are changing at a rapid rate, and that alone will drain your energy. Also, since I have nothing to look forward to in the day when I wake up, like getting high. My motives have changed, I will snap out of it, and eventually all m energy an focus will shift to more simple and regular things, like going out, and enjoying life's treasures. Up to this point I have too much social anxiety to go out, but I use to be out going before I let weed take control of my life, so I will be back to normal. Don't give up, and never forget why you chose to quit. Because you want your life back, and you don't want to live in fear anymore, fear of bein controlled, fear of not even trusting yourSelf anymore, fear of losing the ones to love, or letting them down. And if the ones you love smoke as well, set an example and be strong for them. Good luck guys. We're all feeling the same thing, and that's got to be A good sign.

I'm 56 years old. Started smoking weekly in High School. Daily in college. I played football and wrestled in High school but never smoked during either season. Once I was in college I smoked daily. I never had an motivational issues, heck, I'd got to class stoned and still pulled a 3. 75 within my major while working 30 hours a week. I did my career which was high stress as an emergency responder, zero negative impact, I was an officer in my department for 24 years of my 29 year career. Smoking helped me make the most of what little down time i had. During that time I got married had four kids, studied karate, kung fu and the sword. And since I had a green thumb buying it was never an issue. Near the end of my career I began to experience blood pressure and adrenal problems. Very scary. Especially for an active health nut like myself. I did stop a couple of time but noticed no withdrawal symptoms. Doctor recommended retirement and I did. Recently some adrenal issues (adrenal fatigue) returned due to some financial stress. I discovered that while cannibis is great for just about any anything that ails you it is not so for your adrenal glands. I stopped just a week ago after smoking pretty much none stop since I was 17 (wow, almost 40 years!). The first two days were easy and my adrenal symptoms began to clear up immediately, from day 3 until today I have been finding my self really tired. I searched the internet because the "official" sites do not mention tiredness as an issue. Glad I found this thread. I take B vitamins, adrenal supplements, C etc...today, day seven, I find my energy returning. I did go through some night sweats and increased body odor. No anxiety, irritability or joint pain though, praise God. Get to sleep early. If you wake up. Read relax. eat take melatonin and then go back to sleep. Try to stay in bed until 9am at least. Today, it feels like my old energy is returning. I've had to reduce my workouts to 30 minutes but I hope to get back to my full work outs by thanksgiving (and I will be indeed Thankful). Prayer has been especially helpful for me. Don't give up. Detox yourself. Once I feel I 'm clean i may smoke again but it will only be a Friday night/ Saturday night thing. Not the wake and bake and every hour on the hour it has been for most of my life. I'll keep you all posted.

Today is my 4th day off it and I've been tired everyday, sleeping constantly. I'm glad I'm not along as I had taken breaks before and always had insomnia, this time it's the opposite. I'm stopping for much longer this time. Only been doing it a year but I gave it my all and was very chronic, like 10+ times a day with concentrates and bowls, for a year straight, with maybe 2 breaks of less than a week each time. I'll be glad to get my dreams back, I was a good dreamer. Hehe :-) I'm 28 male, btw.

I quit 14 days ago after being a daily smoker for the past 10 years and I too have been feeling extremely tired.  Marijuana causes your body to release cortisol, so marijuana users have higher than average cortisol levels after they smoke.  Also, marijuana afftects your neurtransmitters, artificially increasing levels of certain transmitters, including dopamine.  After extended use the dopamine and cortisol (two compounds involved in "wakefulness") recepters get downregulated or whatnot to deal with the artificial spikes.  When you take away the stimulus (weed) it takes time for the body to upregulate these cellular receptors back to normal and adjust to life without cannabis.

The Ancient Brother agrees...my cortisol levels were exactly what tipped me off that all was not well. I've now been "clean" for almost 2 months and my energy is getting back to normal and my symptoms associated with too much cortisol are just about gone. Keep the Faith and get clean.

I know this reply is w-a-a-a-y late but it is nice to hear that I am definitely not the only one have these same "withdrawal" feelings from kicking cannabis. I have quit more than four times in the past, including recently, and its the same every time. When I'm using, even when I am tired, it almost always gives me a boost to continue being active (can't just lie around). Being tired after a busy day is a normal (and logical) feeling therefore taking something that enables continued activity is placing added stress to the body and mind. After quitting, the body and mind finally get to proceed with its normal cycle of re-cooperation. It stands to reason that after so much extended demands of activity, the body will naturally feel tired so that rest is needed. Also, detoxing compounds that are in excess and not normally produced naturally will assist in feelings of tiredness. Having obscure, odd-like feelings where familiar settings seem a bit "off" and quite hard to accurately define, seem to accompany my bouts with abstinence from this (wonderful) drug. I would suggest to just go with it until it subsides. Personally, when I'm off of smoking, I do not crave processed foods, which could also be affecting the initial drowsy-like feelings experienced. As far as studying goes, (I, too, like to study) take more breaks if possible and keep consuming a bit more low glycemic foods if you are not already; minimal blood sugar spiking. It [quitting cannabis] is a matter of getting used to; doing things without its assistance. Sometimes, I just have to force my days duties until I get used to it for I am a constant and consistent user of the drug :) :) :)

im on day 16 now and feeling more and more tired every day... just wanna know when in the heck this feeling is gonna go away ? :( the reason i stopped was because i was always tired and depressed, but quitting seems to have made it worse... im definitely gonna stay with it for as long as i can cuz ive just got so much going on in life right now and need a clear mind but i really cant wait for things to start getting better instead of worse...

my next goal is to quit cigarettes and figured quitting bud would help... been smoking for more than half my life, im 32 now and started at 15... i quit both cigarettes and weed for 8 months, 7 years ago, and stupidly started both again... being a daily smoker, i dont really remember the last time i quit but i dont think it was this hard... maybe i just started smoking more after the last time i quit ? idk... but i guess it just feels good to vent on here... definitely cant wait for the fatigue and depression to go away tho
