I prefer Thorlos
Absolutely the best socks made. Good cushioning and very long life.

Smartwool, pretty much anything made of coolmax. I have a pair of bridgedale that I adore. I also like the wacky Injinji socks. Absolutely zero blisters. But they take some getting used to.

DONT BUY COTTON SOCKS

I wear cotten socks to train. They're fine with my feet. If it's raining sometimes I just don't wear socks at all.

When racing I have some Gold Toe thin socks that I wear with my flats.

i just wear cotton socks and dont have a problem, but then again every runner is different.

but for races, if you have flats i would definetly not wear socks, if anyone reading this hasnt tried running races in flats without socks yet, you have got to try it. make sure your flats fit nice and snug but not too tight before you do.

the first time i raced without socks ruled. the shoe material didnt slip around like it usually did with my socks, so it felt like the shoe was more a part of my foot; i really enjoyed it.

are thin socks better than thick ones?

I have some "cheap" athletic no-show socks that I bought at Target. They are the best socks in the world. It's best to avoid pure cotton, but any mix is good.

they 'finally' got them in womens.

I prefer the thicker socks (thorlos) for the cushioning, and cooler weather. The thinner are better in the warmer weather.
Given the choice though, I would go with Thorlos all the time
