Hi! My sister has urinary tract infection but she doesn't want to go to doctor. She thinks that UTI can disappear on its own. I'm not sure about that. I try to explain to her that UTI can cause very serious problems if you don't treat it well. But she doesn't listen to me. I'm wondering now can you make a UTI go away without antibiotics?

Well, it's possible if you have a very mild infection. You have right that untreated UTI can be dangerous because it can cause a kidney infection. But your sister can try with some alternative ways. She needs to drink a lot of water, herbal tea and cranberry juice. Also there are certain exercises that can do some help.

Hi,

Although decision of not visiting a doctor is not smart your sister probably hasn’t faced herself for the first time with this condition so she is sure it is not serious. She can try, like aundrea said, with herbal tea and cranberry juice or tea. Any kind of cranberry products is great for any type of urinary issues, and they also say that cranberry juice can help prevent the development of kidney stones.

Besides risk of kidney infection your sister should be fine. But if she doesn’t get better in a few days don’t let her to avoid visiting her doctor any more but force her and especially if she develops high fever or pain in the lower back.
