I am 50 years old woman, so maybe you should consider that too with answering me. Does hard lump have to be cancerous? I want to know if I should visit doctor, or it will be absorbed by itself.

Usually cancerous lumps are hard, more often then soft. If the lump is soft, then there is likely to be another cause. Anyway, you have to know that each lump in breast should be examined. Especially it is case if lump occurs in older age, and there are included all women age over 40. They all give us enough reason for concern, especially if they are noticed for the first time in a lady over the age of 40. Doctors presume that the lump is cancerous or malignant which is just other term with the same meaning, until proved otherwise. If some women in younger ages notice lump they are commonly multiple lumps, and almost always are benign. You should visit surgeon who will examine you very carefully and often he can tell if the lump is cystic or cancerous. Then by doing special investigations such as sonar or mammogram he can then confirm whether it is a solid lump or a cystic lump. Removing is usually the only way to solve hard lumps and then surgeon should do biopsy and send a piece or the whole lump to the laboratory for analysis under a microscope.
