Hi all,
I am in New Zealand with confirmed vaginal infection of glabrata too. Here I can buy boric acid at a pharmacy and put it into size 00 capsules... it helps, but in my case, after several long courses it has lowered but not eliminated the infection. I'm waiting on a amphotericin B and flucytosine to arrive (had to be ordered from overseas by my doctor) for topical application. Also I've found garlic (inserted to vagina) good, and also, some essential oils are very good for symptomatic relief. The oils (e.g. cinnamon oil, clove oil, wild oregano oil) have to be diluted in another oil, like olive oil. Then this can be put on a tampon and inserted. I have also been using probiotics orally and vaginally... have found these to be some help but again, not enough to get rid of the glabrata! A low sugar, low carbohydrate diet helps. It's such a tough infection. I've had this thing for about 4 years now.

I should also note it's taken a long time to find a doctor who doesn't think I'm crazy. Most doctors just want to give you azoles and send you away. Finally I found a doctor who has seen some of the same research I have about glabrata! If this amphotericin b and flucytosine doesn't work, my last resort is a serious intensive internal and external treatment with essential oils and herbal remedies... and if that fails, all I can then do is control the symptoms with rotating boric acid and essential oils, garlic etc.

Best wishes to you all.

Here's hoping the amphotericin and flucytosine work.I don't know howyou've dealt with it so long.
How much cinnamon oil, oregano oil and clove oil and olive oil did you put on the tampon.
Did you try the L rhamnosus and L reuteri. I have some of that on order. I've also read that low progesterone can cause an imbalance in the vaginal ph levels. Have you checked that? I don't know but I'm thinking the balance of the vaginal ph levels is very important. Thanks Cindy

I have yet another question. I think you did iv amphotericin b and flucytosine. Is that correct and you had a very bad reaction to it. But you said you would use topical amphotericin b and flucytosine. So from what you know are the side effects less severe topically than with an iv? Thanks again and sorry for so many questions. I have one more question for the lady in New Zealand, what is a serious internal and external treatment of essential oils and herbals? Thanks. Sorry for all the questions--I am struggling with this and other side effects of the antibiotic Levaquin that have made me unwell and I'm trying to get my health back. I was very healthy before this. I’m so happy right now that I came over this site while, again, spending hours doing researchers because of all these doctors that knows nothing

D, thanks for the info! My doctor seemed very positive about the ampho b and flucytosine in jelly base administered vaginally, partially because my sensitivity culture showed my infection to be very susceptible to ampho b. We’ll see. Still playing the waiting game until my next culture. Done with my third round of boric acid and having some burning but not sure if it’s infection burn or trauma from lots of boric acid. I’m praying the second one!
Cindy - I would look for a top rated medical facility (as close to you as possible) that has a lab in house. I also asked other health care professionals (I.e. my chiropractor, physical therapist, my son’s doctor, and anyone I knew who had a difficult health issue where they went and who they saw) Like D said, don’t give up until you find someone willing to help and who can use actual lab based testing to see if you are making progress. Just my opinion!

Oh and Cindy - my doctor said the ampho b and flucytosine vaginally is usually well-tolerated for what it’s worth. I have yet to find someone who has tried it.....

Hi Karen, good to hear from you, I had been wondering if you had any results yet since finishing the boric acid. The flucysotine and ampho b combined is very well tolerated with little or no side effects apparently and it is definitely something I would have tried if it had been available to me here.. even though both drugs are used here they would not agree to compound both together for use vaginally... but would without hestitation have given them to me via iv which they also agreed had serious side effects and possibly fatal for me... I still cant understand this..totally ridiculous!
But now I have had three clear cultures following my own treatment with three rounds of boric acid so im confident now its truly gone and hopefully never to return..its three months now since I finished the boric acid and im happy to report the burning etc over the three months has totally diminished with time.. the only time I feel uncomfortable now is during a period, im thinking now my burning has more to do with ph changes in the vagina at that time of the month, and I do think it takes time for things to settle down.. how long will it be before you know Karen your results?

Sorry Cindy only saw your message now.. no I was admitted to try anidulafungin by iv but I had an anaphylactic reaction to it so I ended up having ridiculous doses of voriconazole by iv which did not work..nor will anything by iv in my opinion..the hospital wanted to re admit me to hospital to begin ampho b by iv but at this stage I was so ill after the previous treatment and scared they were going to bloody kill me I refused.. but yes if I could have the flucysotine and ampho b vaginally in the gel I would have definitely used it..it is well tolerated with little side effects and hundreds of times safer than by iv... dont apologise about questions ...anything I can do to help in anyway I will..

Hi D,
So, I’m scheduled to get another culture done tomorrow to see if it’s gone after 3 rounds, but of course I started my period early and I think I’ll have to postpone it a week so they can get a good swab.
What’s worse is my 3 year old gave me strep throat last weekend so I came off the boric acid only to go on an antibiotic:( I’m really hoping it doesn’t blow any progress I have made. I have no idea how this culture will come back but it will probably be another week and a half now before I know:) The not knowing is awful. I’m praying it’s not growing back while I wait..... will keep you posted!

Hi D,
When u say u took 3 rounds of boric acid. Did u give a break in between during ur periods or not?
I too have been battling this irritating life wrecking fungus for a year now. I did 3 rounds of boric acid but they were months apart. Every round of boric acid did bring my fungis growth to light growth from moderate growth. But after 14 days it wud grow back again. Maybe if i had continied with the boric acid i too coukd have manahed to get rid of it. Thinking of giving it a try now if culture comes back positive again

I went to an infectious disease specialist who prescribed me 7 tablets of fluconazole 150mg on alternate days aling with amphotericin b vaginal cream for 14 nights. However even after this treatment i dont feel a 100% fine and fear it will grow back again. 3 weeks after the treatment i have now given a swab for culture and awaiting results on tht. Very anxious abt it cz even though i want it to be gone i still dont feel a 100% fine and have been getting a funny lightish yellowish green discharge too. Not often but 3 or 4 times in a day.
Maybe i shud have asked the specialist to add in the flucytosine with the amhotericin b too. But i wasnt aware of it.
Everyone do remember me in ur prayers. Hope the nightmare has ended and these symtoms will go away too with time.
Do let me know though about using boric acid during periods or not.

Dear S,
Initially I tried boric acid that was compounded for me through a hospital it was made into a wax type bullet and it irritated me badly but did take the growth from heavy to light/moderate it was the only thing I had tried which reduced the growth at all.. so after multiple failures to get a handle of this thing.. I revisited the boric acid.. I started from heavy growth..
I made them myself using pure pharmaceutical grade boric acid into gelatin capsules ..600 mg nightly for 14 nights.. after round one I literally gave it a break for a week, I was swabbed.. (moderate growth/light) and then repeated same dose for 14 nights.. after this dose I gave another break of a week because I wanted doctor to do another swab and then (this swab showed very light growth) then I did third round and repeated swab ... all clear!!
I must say though I was having regular exams and swabs throughout, under a doctors supervision and she was happy I was showing no irritation.. if you leave to long between treatments and there is any growth at all left it will just multiply again and then your back to square one.. and yes I used them through a period also..
Hope this helps..thinking of you,

D, thankyou for ur reply. Im from australia. Where do u think i can get hold of pharmaceutical grade boric acid from? Also those gelatin capsules?
How did u measure 600mg of boric acid to b put in each capsule?
Even though i tolerated the compounded boric acid pretty well. The only thing i got was thin watery discharge and maybe slight burning. But they cost arnd 40$ for a 14 capsules. Im thinking of making my own this time. If God forbid my culture comes bak positive again.
