Hi everyone! My name is Avril and I'm 13. Everyone says that the average weight of a 13 year old is 95-120 pounds. Well, I'm 82 pounds, and I hate it. Everyone in my class is curvey and just have amazing bodies. But I'm just a scrawny girl. I eat A LOT. Everyone is amazed with what I can eat. I am too! I eat more then everyone in my class! But I'm tiny :( My teacher said that I could be eating a lot, but my body could be burning all the fat from the food i eat. I'm a little scared cause my weight is sooooo below average. Can someone help me please? It would mean a lot.

Relax! Everyone's body goes through a lot of changes at this age. Believe me, lots of girls would change places with you. If, you do not fill-out in a few years, you can be an athlete, model, actor or anything you want to be. Go online and find out the kind of clothes and hairstyles that suit your body type.

Do not talk about or make excuses about your weight, tell your friends not to bring it up, and if you do, have them change the subject.  It seems that you could become obsessive about your weight, talk to a therapist, not your friends, they do not know anything. I will bet someone teased you about your weight at a young age.  Remember, people who do this have some real mental hang-ups or they would not need to put you down to make them feel better.  Eat good for you food, not just lots of food.

If anyone makes a comment, your best defense is to just ignore him or her.  Pretend that you do not even hear them, just keep going if you are walking, or in a group, change the subject, go to another group, or change your task, go to the bathroom. No one likes to be ignored, so they will eventually stop.  They are small minded, crude, rude, and/or have low self-esteem.  Why would you care what a person like that thinks in the first place.  I do not recommend it because it can lead to an argument/confrontation. However, if you must, to any one that makes remarks, answer with a joke: "Bet you wish you had a body like this!" Look for an artist, (International gymnasts) that has your body style like yours, and you can respond, “I am lucky, ____________has a body just like mine.

On the other hand, be proud of who you are no matter what. Even if you do not feel proud now, you will become that person. "Fake it till you make it." Become a cheerleader, start a sport, take dance, gymnastics, theater, and/or become a runner. Get involved with activities that need your type of body.  Most importantly, this is the first rule of engagement in this tough life: NEVER LET THEM KNOW THAT THEY HAVE HURT YOU, OTHERWISE THEY WILL JUST KEEP COMING BACK FOR MORE.  Just ignore these bullies, to get one up on them, you would have to become like them.  Moreover, you want to be just who you are, there is a place for all shapes and sizes in this big world.  Try talking it over with your mom or dad, they really are your best friend and all they want is the best for you.
