I have been experiencing pain in my right testicle for a little less than a year. It started around the time that I hurt my back at the gym. The pain comes and goes but generally only comes when I am active (walking/general movement) and subsides once I stop walking or sit down (though the pain has stopped, it is still sore to the touch at this point along with some mild discomfort.) There have been times where I've been walking and have felt an extremely sharp shooting pain throughout my testicle and general groin region which lasts about a second or so but this has only occurred a hand full of times. The pain that I normally feel is more of a (sorry if this doesn't make sense but it's the only way I can describe it) dull/sharp pain, like the testicle is being sucked into my stomach. There was a period a few weeks ago where there was burning pain near the base of my penis during urination, this lasted for about a week and am not sure if there is any correlation between it and the testicular pain.
My GP sent me for an ultrasound about 5 or 6 months ago and the results were negative. He referred me to a urologist who suspected it may be torsion (the type that un-twists on its own). He told me to go to the ER if the pain lasted for more than 15 minutes next time it happened. A couple of months ago the pain came on at the gym and instead of waiting 15 minutes I went to the ER just to be on the safe side. Of course (living in canada) I had to wait for hours before I finally got in (by that time the pain had subsided). Once I got in, they performed an ultrasound and results were negative.
At this point I'm unsure of what my next move should be. My urologist gave me the option for surgery to correct the possible torsion but I'm not sure if I'm willing to take the risk if torsion is not the definite cause. Can somebody give me some insight of what I might be dealing with?
