C. difficile is an anaerobic bacteria that causes severe colitis. It’s the major agent of colitis, which is the name for inflammation of colon. This bacterium produces toxins that cause watery diarrhea. General symptoms are absent. Sometimes fever with chills may occur, in immunocompromised persons. Loss of appetite and abdominal tenderness are present in colitis.
