I wanted to post this because i was completely freaked out by a similar occurrence. I had a colposcopy a year ago and had some really weird discharge as well. It was pretty disgusting and i was worried but then it just went away. Last week I had my first prenatal visit and had a pap smear, my Dr. put the same solution he used to stop the bleeding during my colposcopy , I think its called monsel's solution. Three days after my doctor's visit I passed some really weird looking discharge. It looked like a small plastic wet bag or a used condom and was brown and slimy but when I touched it it was not plastic more like tissue. After this I started to spot and bleed a little, I was freaking out because I am 6 weeks pregnant, when I called the Doctor she said it sounded like I had a miscarriage and to come in first thing next morning. Well I went to the Doctor and they did an ultrasound and the baby is ok. I wanted to post this because I lost a lot of sleep over this and spent the whole night crying thinking I had a miscarriage. I think it was that damn monsel's solution. That thing is disgusting so dont be scared ladies, it happens to a lot of us and apparently it is normal.

I also just had a colpo and this really weirded me out. Why am I loosing skin/tissue/condom like material? It's really gross and this medicine smells so bad. How long must this go on? I just want it to be over. My colpo was terribly painful because at the end she pulled the thing propping me open out and I had dried out so it basically ripped my skin off it hurt soo bad. Hopefully that wont happen to anyone else. Thanks for posting everyone, I'm glad I'm not the only one to have this experience.

I had this procedure done while 7 weeks pregnant and the same thing has happened to me. The dr at ER told me I am miscarring, but not after reading this I believe there might be still hope! I am very scared for my baby, I have an u/s in the morning to find out!

I also experienced the tissue like discharge after my colposcopy, and I did some research and came across this information:

AFTER THE COLPOSCOPY

You may experience vaginal bleeding after the colposcopy, especially if the provider performs

biopsies. If the liquid bandage solution is used, you may experience brown-yellow discharge

that may resemble gauze, tissue, or coffee grounds. It is important to note that this type of

discharge is normal and nothing is left in the vagina. The discharge will resolve in a few days.

Any cramping experienced during the colposcopy will resolve in a couple of minutes. Most

women can return to their normal activities immediately after the procedure.

had my colposcopy and biopsy yesterday and today i had this tissue-like discharge AND also what looks like coffee grinds or little dark stones... i was freaking out till i read all the previous posts... i guess its normal! relief!

People! This is the "glue" the doctor uses to stop the bleeding after your colposcopy. Nothing to worry about . I thought it was a disintegrating condom dislodged by the colposcopy. Nope, Doc said it was just the glue.

Just had my first colposcopy. I'm 21.
I was beyond nervous. I basically thought I was going to die, especially because I went alone. I read forums before the appointment and read about people fainting, crying, etc.
I was so nervous that I was getting lightheaded when laying on the table. I had one scraping sample taken and one biopsy "punch". The scraping sample wasn't bad, weird/uncomfortable, took a few seconds longer than the other but no eye-watering pain by any means. Then for the second sample, my doctor told me to cough when she did it. It was fine. Way easier than an ear piercing. It definitely did not feel like a chunk of tissue being taken.
The other thing that helped was that I was talking to the doctor almost the whole time. Instead of waiting in silence (which I did at first), I recommend focusing on the questions you have.

Thank you for this information... it made me feel so much better... I also had a colpo done on tuesday and a giant organ-like piece came out of me. I literally thought my cervix had fallen out. LOL So now i know this giant piece of grossness is completely normal.

This just happened to me. Does it typically happen only once? The first time scared me to death....I thought I miscarried or part of my organs came out of my body. If anyone knows, please let me know!

Just passed mine tonight and I had my colposcopy and biopsy 6 days ago. Glad I found this website earlier when I was having the thick, brown discharge. I can't believe the doctors don't warn you about this. Yeah, they do say "coffee-grind discharge" but they don't mention that it's wrapped in a large sac of skin and may look similar to a miscarriage. Jeez!

I did colposcopy today I had same discharge( coffee ground and white tissue like small piece of soak paper tissue). Thank you for the comment about it. now I know it is normal. I was very bad feeling when I showered after colposcopy because I had very bad smell like smell from dusted old neil on my vagina. I know where the smell from. I think The GYN clinic did not clean enough all equipment properly. thanks god. I did tetanus vaccination before. I will gonna complain about it tomorrow. they did not explained about what discharge come out and very bad sanitation. maybe non sterile. what kind clinic is this?.

Same thing here...dark flesh colored tissue like discharge with coffee grounds ...4 days after Colposcopy.

This is my second colposcopy in 4 years, the first of which was followed by a LEEP. I remember the profound coffee grounds discharge after the LEEP, but nothing after the first colposcopy. Will check with my doctor tomorrow, but sounds like "this happens". Thanks to all of you and hope all are well following what we women endure ;) Blessings!

Ok so i know ur post is like really old but a few days ago i had the cervical biopsy done..for the first time and my doc told me after she did the biopsy that a brownish or black like coffee grounds substance would come out of me...but today is the 3rd day since i had it done and like she said black coffee ground substance came out but what she didnt tell me is and idk if this is a good thing or bad but it came out with like this tissue or thin layer of skin came out with it and it was bout a lil bit smaller then a silver dollar coin and 3 of them came out while i was in the shower..
