Have been suffering from Chronic Compartment Syndrome since 9th grade. It actually took doctors 2 years to figure out what was happening to my legs. Anyways I was very active in sports in high school but managed to work around my leg-pain issues. I am now a Jr in college and just this last summer was diagnosed with a way below under active thyroid or hypothyroidism. I am now taking thyroid replacement meds and guess what!!!! My compartment syndrome is getting better. I still work out but have been unable to run over 2 miles. This last month I have been slowly running around 4 to 5 miles each time I go out!! I am SO AMAZED. The stinging pain and numbness is just not there. I am still very careful as Compartment Syndrome is a very tricky issue. But my doctor did say in passing, that controlling my thyroid may help my compartment syndrome. So I just wanted to share this. I know how this horrible syndrome can completely change an active lifestyle. Good luck!!

Hi Mandy,
The technique the Chiropractor is referring to is called ART: Active Release Technique. It DOES WORK! Anyone who is considering surgery should google it. There's a Chiro in Huntington Beach Ca. that seems to have developed it, (Dr. Gonzales.) He trains Chiros and Physical Therapists all over the country to become certified in the technique.
If you go to youtube and click in "Compartment Syndrome from Running," you'll find a video on there from Dr. Gonzales explaining it, but I've done more research and there are certified chiro's all over the country.
I HOPE EVERYONE READS THIS. SURGERY DOES NOT SEEM TO WORK, THIS DOES! GOOD LUCK!

I am trying to get my symptoms diagnosed in the uk but are very similar to yours. Have you had any success with non surgical approach as I am not keen on having surgery

I am also in the UK and have had physio therapy for chronic compartment syndrome (took them 2 and a half years to diagnose me). The physio barely helped at all I found no overall improvement in my condition after being given orthotics, various strengthening exercises and foam rollering everyday. I've now chosen to have surgery on the worst leg as I see no other way that it will ever improve.
Hope this helps

Dr. Jason hofer @ Ventura orthopedics in California . I had a 500 lb physical therapy high low table crush my left arm with a bolt that punctured through my wrist. I was taken back right away for surgery almost lost my arm up to i believe my shoulder he said it was the most emotional 3 surgeries he had performed however he was able to save my arm and that I'm so thankful and greatful it's been 8 months and I'm still in therapy and in sever pain however id rather have my arm and the pain than loosing my arm to a fluke accident where the piston broke and the bed came down crushing and trapping my arm for almost 3 min which seemed like forever

I couldn't help but reply to your comment. I've been suffering from compartment syndrome for 5 years. no doctor knew what was wrong. it came on after having my only.child via section and long standing being a new mommy and nervous as to doing something wrong. but even still nobody knows what caused it. I'm in psi everyday that I live I can't even enjoy playing with my daughter cuz the swelling is so bad I can run I can't even wear shoes I lost both arches in my feet and I can rotate either one of my ankles st all. a podiatrist wanted to fuse my ankle joints together and I refused. my ligaments are chronically town and no longer visible. have any of these things happens to you? hope to hear from you soon as I'm at a stand still with this. I feel like my life has been taken from me.

OMG, you guys may have saved me mentally. I have been dealing with this severe pain for so many years and have been marked off as crazy. I force my self to work and the pain is terrible. I have had lower back tests, nerve tests diabetic testing mental testing. recently they doubled my work load and changed my work location to a hard tile floor. The pain was so bad, I thought I was gonna loose my mind.I do have bilateral pars defect but I have had that since my 20's. I went to the ER and they tested me for a blood clots, gave me ibuprofen and sent me home. I have had depression all my life due to sexaual abuse as a child but I over come that, I keep forcing myself to work but when I get physically hurt or severely over stressed...The pain returns 10 fold.my feet and legs hurt so bad I feel like I would like them to fall off. Recently my forearms and hands are doing the same. One or two abnormal blood tests come back but not enough to show Im not crazy. My blood pressure goes up when Im in pain or far walking, so they say its my blood pressure. My cholesterol goes up a little when I eat ice cream every day, so they say its my cholesterol. yes zoloft, xanax and elavil ease the pain, but dont dare ask for a pain med cause then your a drug seeker. ( dont work anyway ) As it is..taking these combo of meds makes you look crazy in it self. I cant handle pain meds cause I love to do so much physically. I hope to find a doctor somewhere to help me figure this out...If Im crazy then just lock me up if it stops the pain. this week I will get a xray for shin splints to rule out that too. When did it start when you cant even pay someone to care or try to help you.

I currently suffer from chronic compartment syndrome and have been referred to a pain clinic to have nerve blocks put on both legs. Has anyone had this done? What are the complications/effects of this procedure?
