Hi I am a father,
I caught my 12 year old son twice masterbaiting to anime, dragon ballz or one of those cartoons on his bedroom t.v. He dose not know I know. Just leaves the door craked all the time. I have not yet told my wife or him. I think she would freak out again! I obviously can't take the cartoon away from him but what also freeks me out because 6 month ago I cought him looking up anime porn on our family computer, my wife freaked! I have no problem talking to her about this but I don't want her to freak out again. Plus do I tell him I saw him and how should I approach him about this? I am not ready yet and I see his face and body changing! I think he dose it several times a day. I also don't want my younger 9 year son catching him. I am not ready for this!

dont worry about it. its all up to you if you want to approach your son about it, but i can tell you from experience that its just a phase. im only 17 and i havent been into that since i hit puberty. im sure it will pass. but you might want to warn him about the repercussions of masturbating in excess.

Hi -

This is another similar problem I experienced with my step-son. When I was a child - my parents did not discuss this with me at all...and I decided I was not going to let our son grow up with all of the questions I had. I distinctly remember feeling that I was the only one having these feelings as a kid. Then, when I was an older teen, a friend introduced me to a website on masturbation - it was helpful when I was younger, and I found myself revisiting again as I prepared to talk to my step-son. The site offers great advice for parents, and I think it is also an excellent and safe resource you can provide to your son. I did, although I understand that not everyone would be open to that, and I am aware that he does visit it pretty regularly.

I very much believe the way you approach your son will have an ever-lasting impact on him...good or bad. So take your time, and approach him with complete openness. Also, spend some time to talk to your wife to get her on board. What he is doing is completely normal - I am absolutely certain you did the same thing when you were younger!

Good luck - even thought I think I was prepared for my talk, and I think the outcome was great...it was not an easy thing to do!
